This year the youth and adults of Arkansas County are encouraged to enter field Crops to be judged and exhibited Sept 8 through the 13 at the Arkansas County Fair in DeWitt. Entries must be brought to the exhibit building 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 8 at the Arkansas County Fairgrounds to be entered and judged for awarded ribbons and cash premiums. Each exhibitor may enter any one or all divisions, which must have been grown in Arkansas County and the crop must have been grown during the present or last growing season for that particular crop. "The divisions are cotton, rice, oats, soybeans, grain sorghum, wheat, lespedeza, corn and hay," Kent Adams, Arkansas County Extension Agent-Agriculture, said. "Each exhibitor will be required to furnish the name of the variety of each entry." Adams said rice can be exhibited in 1 and 1/2 inch bundles of the heads of rice or in 10-pound containers of loose rice and it is best to bring in bundles with stalks that have been stripped of leaves containing only stalks of grain fastened together with a rubber band or string. "Soybeans can be exhibited as three stalks or soybean plants or one quart of loose soybeans," Adams said. "Corn can be exhibited as a five-ear bundle." For the other divisions and how they must be exhibited, the entrants should refer to the Arkansas County Fair Tabloid, which is available at the Arkansas County Extension Office or contact the extension office at (870) 94 ...
