I don’t enjoy Kevin Smith: the man. I do enjoy Kevin Smith: the films. I don’t enjoy Seth Rogen. I do enjoy Elizabeth Banks. So it’s come down to this red-band trailer for me to decide whether I care about Zack and Miri Make A Porno . Let’s find out… Hmmm. It appears as though we still have a tie-score. Star Wars-inspired porn set = awesome. Banks = nothing special. Craig Robinson = funny. Typical Smith Star Wars references = (groan). Jeff Anderson & Jason Mewes = amusing. Rogen = as off-putting and unwatchable as ever. Katie Morgan & Traci Lords involvement = fantastic. Oh well. I guess I’ll have to wait until October 31st to find out if I want to see this film. Lo nuevo de Kevin Smith tras la entretenida ‘Clerks II’. ‘Zack and Miri Make a Porno’ es el título y podrá verse a partir del 31 de octubre en los Estados Unidos (no hay fecha aún para España, y creo que debemos ser pesimistas). Lo bueno es que se han dejado de tonterías y como era de esperar, el primer trailer que ha visto la luz es un “red band”, es decir, sólo apto para adultos. Por supuesto, hay coña sobre ‘Star Wars’ . Imagino que Smith ya no necesita presentación. Carter County commissioners took another step Tuesday toward reducing overcrowding in the county courthouse. Commissioners Bill McLaughlin, Dale Ott and Kevin Robinson approved a request from District Attorney Craig Ladd to move the bogus check division into the county building that formerly housed Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. The commissioners also approved moving the county law library across the street into that same building. That move will free up space on the second floor of the courthouse for Ladd. “We’re all over each other,” the district attorney said. Ladd currently rents space in the Colston Building for the bogus check division and one attorney. The district attorney agreed to pay the utility costs for his new offices in the county building. Office space is at a premium in both the courthouse and the courthouse annex. And parking can be a significant problem, especially when court is in session. The commissioners asked a three-member ad hoc committee to look at the county’s long-term space needs and develop recommendations for specific capital improvements a few years ago. But the committee’s 2007 initial multimillion-dollar building and renovation plan was never formally adopted, and the commissioners have been looking at other ways to address the overcrowding issue. Oregon State lands program-changing recruit Roberto Nelson Upon taking the Oregon State men's basketball job in April, Craig Robinson said he believed his unusual background -- he previously worked on Wall Street and is Michelle Obama 's brother -- would help him get in the door with some of the nation's top recruits. "I don't know if we will get them to come to Oregon State, but we will at least get them to listen," he said. Robinson, who spent the two previous seasons at Brown, did better than that in his first recruiting class, landing a surprise verbal commitment on Tuesday from 6-foot-3 guard Roberto Nelson , a top 50 senior from Santa Barbara (Calif.). Nelson had offers from UCLA, Florida, Ohio State, USC and Tennessee, yet became smitten with Robinson over the past few months and came to the conclusion that turning around the Beavers' downtrodden program would be more satisfying than joining one of those established powers. NCAA rules prevent Robinson from commenting on recruits before they sign a Letter of Intent. He told Nelson and his summer-league coaches that he viewed him as program-changing recruit. It appears the UConn men’s basketball team will have to wait for Ater Majok after all. Majok, the highly-touted freshman forward out of Australia, still isn’t on the Storrs campus, and isn’t likely to join the Huskies until the end of the first semester. “It looks like it’s going to be second semester,” UConn assistant Pat Sellers said Tuesday. UConn coach Jim Calhoun said last week the program had a self-imposed deadline of Tuesday to assess Majok’s status, but because his academic responsibilities have kept the Sudan native home, Calhoun didn’t want the rookie to enroll mid-semester, even if he could make it to the U.S. by that time. “We’ve never put a kid in that position, especially a freshman,” Calhoun said last week. Majok has yet to be academically cleared by the NCAA as well, though members of the Huskies coaching staff have said his grades shouldn’t be an issue. Majok’s absence for the first part of the season leaves UConn without a traditional small forward outside of fellow freshman Nate Miles. Stanley Robinson, the Huskies’ regular starter last season, isn’t currently enrolled at UConn, but may return to the school for second semester, Calhoun has said. Linda Sullivan, president and general manager of NBC’s owned-and-operated Los Angeles station KNBC-TV, announced today she will retire later this year. Ms. Sullivan plans to move back to her hometown of Boston. “It was our plan to take advantage of Linda’s leadership and experience at KNBC for as long as possible before her ultimate decision to move back to the East Coast, and that time is now upon us,” said John Wallace, president of NBC Local Media, in a statement. “I’d like to personally thank her for her many contributions to NBC Universal over the years. The Fritz Forecast: Searing temperatures in the Valley, topping 100 degrees, and another KNBC-TV Channel 4 general manager will soon land in the hot seat. NBC Universal announced today that Linda Sullivan, general manager of Channel 4 in Los Angeles for a mere 16 months, was retiring. Sullivan had spent 32 years in the television business in such markets as Boston, Providence, R.I., Washington and the Bay Area. She worked nearly 13 years for NBC and joined KNBC in May 2007, replacing longtime GM Paula Madison. "When I first came to KNBC, someone from one of the employee groups told me that "the worst day here is still better than the best day anyplace else," Sullivan said in a brief phone interview late today. "This is a decision that I didn't reach lightly." She said plans for her retirement had been in the works for a while. Sullivan plans to return to Boston, where her husband, Charles, lives. NBC Universal immediately announced that Craig Robinson, KNBC's executive vice president for operations and digital strategy, would become acting GM "until a formal replacement for Sullivan is announced." The weakening economy has clouded the financial outlook for TV stations, making businesses that were once described as licenses to print money much tougher to manage. Last week, NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker said that revenue at TV stations, which are highly dependent on local auto and retail advertising, have been battered. ...

The latest balls-out (literally) comedy from Kevin Smith , titled Zack and Miri Make a Porno , has premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and buzz so far has been pretty damn positive. We'll have a review for you soon, but I will say (after having seen it) that the flick does not disappoint -- it's filthy, raunchy and foul-mouthed, but it packs a ton of heart and more than a few hilarious moments. Definitely an audience film, so see it in the theater and have fun. (p.s. Craig Robinson steals this mofo hands down!) Look, I'm thinking the same thing you are: Here comes Hollywood to screw up another one of our beloved franchises by re-imagining it for this new, hip generation. Whenever they try to mess with nostalgia, it always comes back to bite them in the ass -- but could things be different with a franchise like Ghostbusters , which gave us two films ... and, let's admit it, only one real classic? Here are five ways to make a cool Ghostbusters sequel ... 1. Get the Apatow crew involved When you look back at the original Ghostbusters , you see names like Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis and Ivan Reitman. Back in 1984, these were the folks who made us really laugh. These were the young-ish voices of the time; the guys you wanted to pay money to see because you knew they'd be worth it. Today, the same can be said for guys like Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Steve Carell, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera and Craig Robinson. At least a few of those names should show up in the sequel in order for it to have a really good shot of succeeding with fans. 2. Und damit wie jeder andere Tag im Jahr – wer das nicht glaubt, der sollte sich das Projekt „A year of streets“ von unserem hochgeschätzten Ex-Kollegen und immer-noch-Freund Craig Robinson ansehen. Craig hatte die Besucherinnen und Besucher seiner Site dazu aufgefordert, Straßen zu sammeln, deren Namen auf ein bestimmtes Datum und damit auf ein bestimmtes Ereignis hinweisen. Und fand für jeden Tag im Jahr eine Straße. Eine wunderschöne Idee, doch uns fehlte da noch was … Per Twitter half uns Thomas beim Verorten der Straßen auf GoogleMaps, Tanja fand, das müsste ein digitales Kalenderblatt sein, Franzi dachte sich ein Design aus und Max hat das Ganze dann noch passend gecoded … so dass wir euch mit diesem kleinen Spielzeug einen interaktiven Kalender präsentieren, der die dem Datum enstprechenden Straßen aus Craigs Übersicht findet. Jetzt noch die Wikipedia-Einträge zu den Ereignissen dazu … das wär’ was! A brand new red band trailer for Zack and Miri Make a Porno has landed over at Rotten Tomatoes (those damn pervs) -- and good news is this trailer is friggin' hysterical. (I'm sorry, but Seth Rogen was born to star in a Kevin Smith flick.) Really funny stuff. You can watch it after the jump, but, of course, I have to warn you that there's plenty of foul language, but no nudity ... yet. Need to go watch it a few more times, but I think I'm loving "Bubbles" and am really glad Jeff Anderson and Craig Robinson nabbed roles in this. So here it is: the "red-band" — aka super-inappropriate-for-work-especially-if-the-sound-is-on — version of the trailer for Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Make a Porno , one of the 13 movies I'm most excited to see this Fall . There's actually not too much in there all of us adults haven't heard before in a Rogen flick (you know, a lot of f-bombs and explicit language used to describe both male and female genitalia). And since Smith fought hard for and won the right to give this movie an R rating instead of NC-17, we know the movie will never get all that crass. Still, it's . . . about making a porno. So you'll probably laugh a lot when you see this but will feel pretty dirty afterward. In addition to learning that best friends and roommates Zack and Miri (Rogen and Elizabeth Banks) are having trouble making the rent, we meet some of the other cast members, including the scene-stealing Craig Robinson as their friend who auditions women for the porno and a character played by Traci Lords named "Bubbles" who has an interesting, uh, trick. Like I said: totally unsuitable for work (unless of course you work in porn), or with kids around, or even puppies and kittens peeking over your shoulder. It is dir- tay and I thought twice before posting — but then I felt inspired by the words of young Silver on 90210 who waxed philosophically that it's a blogger's duty to make trouble.
