We’re nearing my quarterly review of the Top 15 Corporate Blogs (Ranked last in May 2008). Before we get to the September ranking (a week from now) I thought I’d focus this week’s start on Indian companies’ foray into Corporate blogging. This recent article in an Indian newspaper confirmed that belief. Here’s a brief synopsis: 1. [...] ...

It seems that everywhere I look, there’s someone telling us why Corporate Blogs are not only a waste of time if you’re looking for something to read, but they offer no value and should be taken down as soon as possible. The detractors claim Corporate Blogs lack transparency, fail to adapt to the changing times, [...] ...

Quick Update: There’s been a small revision in the Top 15 - Sept 08. After I published the post, I was left wondering how Yahoo!, one of the pioneers in this space, didn’t find itself in the Top 15. The culprit - a URL change! My friend, Nicki Dugan, wrote in saying: We’re now tracked under [...] ...

Not another Corporate blog pick. I hear you say. But, I wouldn’t have gone down this path, if not for Web Worker Daily’s post on how company Blogs can provide big insights. He then goes on to provide a list of criteria for evaluating the efficiency of Corporate Blogs and I couldn’t help measure the [...] ...

Gartner annually releases a Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies . Take the hype cycle construct with a grain of salt, if you will. But I love the chart. The 2008 hype cycle report  illustrates that Corporate blogging is now on the upward slope of "enlightenment" heading towards mainstream adoption. Note that microblogging (meaning Twitter and the new Yammer , for companies) is headed for the Peak of Inflated Expectations. Neville Hobson takes a broader look at the 2008 cycle, comparing it with 2007 and 2006.   Compare to 2005 hype cycle chart Here's what I wrote three years ago about Corporate blogging and the 2005 hype cycle chart . Note that Corporate blogging is halfway down the slope, about to hit bottom at the Trough of Disillusionment. Even then, Gartner pegged Corporate Blogging with a "clear" circle, meaning "less than two years" to mainstream adoption. Interesting, huh? It hasn't happened yet. But I think it will.   ...

The industrious Peter Kim recently compiled a list of 159 social media marketing examples . I added to this 35+ examples of Corporate social media posted to Mashable by Aaron Uhrmacher. I looked at the members list over at the Blog Council . Perused the invaluable NewPR Wiki list of Corporate Blogs . And cross referenced the 58 entries on the Fortune 500 Business Blogging Wiki .  A few more lists (see here and here ). Then I sifted through to create this list of 67-plus Big Brand* Corporate Blogs. I also included some large association, governmental and non-profit Blogs. A few takeaways: Most of these Corporate Blogs are written by multiple authors An increasing number of Big Brands have more than one blog These Blogs are updated at least several times a month They get it (although some are edgier and more revealing than others) Please help me curate (thanks to Peter Kim for the verb) the list by adding additional suggestions in the comments. Big Brand Blogs Accenture Accuquote Adobe (multiple Blogs) Amazon American Red Cross Avaya Avis (UK) BearingPoint BestBuy (CMO blog) Best Western Boeing (VP Marketing) Chevron (event blog) Cisco (12 Corporate Blogs) Clorox Coca-Cola Delta Dell (hands-down the winner as far as use of social media) EMC Facebook Fandango Fiskateers Flickr Ford Forrester Research (multiple Blogs) GE (Global Research) Global Crossing GM (multiple Blogs) Google Graco GSK Harley-Davidson Hitachi (multiple Blogs) HP (inclu ...

Note: this post has been revised to make it easier to read. Reading some of the better known Big Brand Blogs you'd never know the nation's economic ship is listing sharply and BTW it's going to affect all of us, globally . Tom Friedman reminds us in the New York Times that this is an unprecedented scary moment (Sept. 30, 2008). He ranks it with the Cuban Missile Crisis, JFK's assassination and 9/11. Above, the Delta blog writes in happy-speak about sponsoring the World Business Forum featuring top political and business figures from Jack Welch to Rudy Giuliani... hey, maybe there's a tie-in to the crisis here. OK, so things move slowly in Corporate America. I guess we shouldn't be surprised that Corporate Blogs are not reacting and that most of them are saying nothing about the meltdown. As an example, Southwest Airlines, which has one of the best Corporate Blogs, didn't have a plan to use the blog effectively during the aircraft inspection crisis last winter. This is an opportunity lost. Many companies have much to tell us, or can educate us, on what this all means. I certainly don't pretend to understand entirely what the ripple effect through the economy will be. Why not use the Corporate blog platform for what it can be -- a revolutionary publishing channel that enables companies to speak directly to customers, to inform and possibly influence them, without the filter of MSM. Here's my attempt to nudge some Big Brand Blogs into ta ...

I have been blogging, or, more accurately blawging, for over six months now and have really enjoyed being able to share my thoughts on the law and being a trainee solicitor on the Legal Week site. Blogging is becoming ever more popular as the tradition media struggles to retain viewers/readers and many people seek their news and editorial comment in the instant electronic online world where information is free and available in enormous magnitude. Yet much online content, including most Blogs, is unedited, or, not subject to approval from the website publisher or ISP. ...

Sitepoint's Josh Catone does a great job of provding insight into the top Blogs, as selected by Forrester. For instance, the BBC has The Editors blog in which the editorial staff give background behind the day's news. Other Blogs include those of Sun, The Marriott, Adobe and General Motors. Whilst these cut across all industries, there's definitely a focus towards tech Blogs (maybe because there are just so many of them out there). Read more about… ...

It has been a while since we have heard from Technorati on just how many Blogs are out there. I recently found myself peddling figures from early 2007. According to the latest study, something you may have noticed is that Blogs are here to stay. To date, Technorati has indexed around 113 million… ...
