I recently finished phase one of the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art website . When I started this project there was very few of the modules I wanted to use that were not in beta stages for 6.x. So I went with 5.x. This is by no means my first drupal site, but I am very proud of this one. I spent a bunch of extra time making it extra easy to add and update content. Of course drupal is great at this already, but I found out that much planning goes into making the process painless for users that are new to all of this. The staff at the Nerman was quick to learn content management tasks and things are running smoothly so far. Already making a list of improvements for phase two. Some features that are ready have not been rolled out yet, so be sure to check back. The last 14(or so) years of JCCC artwork will be added to the site in the near future. In the Zilkha Gallery: Perspectives 162: Snow July 18 - September 28, 2008 Snow features installation works by Los Angeles-based, conceptual artist Allie Bogle and Houston-based photographer Libbie Masterson. For this exhibition, both Bogle and Masterson have created immersive environments in which viewers are invited to either engage in playful interaction or quiet meditation. In their respective works, each artist speaks to landscape, but with a particular articulation that questions the viewer's perception of what is natural and what is man-made. The subtext of their work points to larger social issues surrounding Contemporary society's disconnection from nature and its simultaneous desire to "recreate" the natural, even as it thaws into a spectacle of artificiality. This collection reflects the great expressive and formal diversity of the 20th century. In the early 1900s, Modernism introduced radical notions of Art, represented in the collection by work of Henri Matisse, the Cubist-inspired painting of Stuart Davis and the Surrealistic work of Theodore Roszak. In contrast, the urban realism of the century's early years is exhibited by John Sloan and Robert Henri. Regionalism, a later reaction against Modernism, is represented in superb examples by Grant Wood, John Steuart Curry and Thomas Hart Benton, whose works reflect the artists' devotion to bedrock American values. Abstract Expressionism, one of America's first great contributions to the history of Art, is exemplified in the collection by Jackson Pollock, Hans Hofmann and Helen Frankenthaler, while the response to consumer culture known as Pop Art is illustrated in the work of George Segal and Tom Wesselmann. A considerable variety of Contemporary sculpture is also represented by such artists as Deborah Butterfield, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Petah Coyne and Martin Puryear. ... The program, launched by the couple and with National Gallery of Art, titled gives 50 works from the Contemporary collection to an institution in each state. Libby Lumpkin, executive director of the Las Vegas Art Museum, says the Museum received a tentative list of works Thursday. The list includes pieces by such artists as Richard Tuttle and Larry Zox. "We are very honored to have the confidence of the National Gallery of Art," Lumpkin says. "I have been an admirer of the Vogels and their collection for many, many years. They are the quintessential example of how you can be a collector without having an enormous amount of money. They got to know the artists and the gallerists. They followed their instincts. And they had great instincts." The couple started collecting Art in the 1960s. Herb Vogel was a postal clerk. Dorothy Vogel was a librarian. Their collection of 4,000 works includes mostly minimal and conceptual Art by such artists as Sol Lewitt, Sylvia Plimack Mangold and Christo and Jeanne-Claude The National Gallery of Art is working with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Institute of Museum and Library Services on the national gift program.
