The Massachusetts Sierra Club recently announced their list of endorsed candidates for the Massachusetts Legislature, including incumbents Rep. Tom Conroy, D-Wayland, for the 13th Middlesex District, and Sen. Susan Fargo, D-Lincoln, for Third Middlesex Senatorial District. The endorsement process included in-depth research and careful analysis of a questionnaire designed specifically to address local environmental issues. Phil Sego, chairman of the Sierra Club Political Committee , said the Sierra Club has endorsed candidates who it believes will further the work of protecting the environment, support better transportation options, reduce global warming emissions, and help push Massachusetts forward into the new “green” economy. “As the combined threats of global warming and a tightening economy meet with opportunities for economic growth through environmentally friendly opportunities these candidates offer true leadership,” said Sego. “All studies show we do not enjoy the luxury of time — these candidates recognize that and want to act appropriately.” Sego added: “The Sierra Club looks forward to working with these candidates in the coming months and years to focus on environmental issues, reducing our reliance on oil through conservation and other measures, improving our air and water quality, and other issues that affect the quality of life and health of residents.” The Sierra Club’s endorsements have been communicated to it ... State Rep. Tom Conroy will be live on WayCAM, Channel 9, from 7–7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, to host “Ask the Rep.” The show is a television version of his district office hours, which he holds monthly in all three towns of the 13th Middlesex District: Lincoln, Sudbury and Wayland. Conroy is launching the television program to ensure that he is accessible to constituents. “I enjoy the dialogue with citizens, and encourage folks from all three towns to call in at 508-358-3472. It’s a great opportunity to discuss issues, concerns, and perspectives about state-wide public policies. It’s also an opportunity for me to serve citizens by helping address the day-to-day challenges they are facing,” Conroy said. Tapes of the program will be sent to Sudbury and Lincoln for rebroadcast on the local cable station in each town. In addition, Conroy will be hosting local office hours for the month of August in Lincoln, Sudbury and Wayland. No appointments are necessary and meetings are held on a first come, first served basis. Office hours and locations for Monday, Aug. 18, are as follows: · 3-3:30 p.m. — Lincoln Public Library (Historical Room), Bedford Road, Lincoln; · 4-4:30 p.m. — Goodnow Library (small meeting room, second floor), 21 Concord Road, Sudbury; · 5-5:30 p.m. — Wayland Free Public Library (Raytheon Room), 5 Concord Road, Wayland.
