For the past few months, we've had comments on FishbowlNY but starting today, there's no need to register with Discus anymore. We'll still be monitoring the conversation for anything inappropriate but we can't wait to hear from you. Having your say just got a little easier. See that big patch of blue? We’re supposed to run around that bad boy twice tomorrow with Local Quipster in the White Bear Lake 20 miler, a prime tuneup for the Twin Cities Marathon in three weeks. I'm afraid our servers and blogging software could not handle the simultaneous flood of comments in this blog and we had to turn them off. You can still follow the game in Tom Haudricourt's post below, and we'll have complete coverage online tonight after the game. In addition, we have a live box score and an "At the Park" inning-by-inning summary available. We'll be considering our options for online coverage of Game 2 and beyond. We're sorry for the technical difficulties. ... Source: blogs.courant.com --- 1 day ago
I haven't been able to hold up my end of the deal very well, even since the decision came out. I had to get my Sunday column -- aout the Kerrigan decision -- in quickly and then start preparing for the show. I'll try to blog more tonight. I think it's an elegant decision. Some folks may not agree with it, but I think the legal reasoning will be hard to assail. There is a sort of biblical beauty to it too. I'll get into that in my column. ... Jennie Garth Commenting on Paul Newman equivalent to Stephen Ames breaking down Jack Nicklaus' swing
Source: www.travelgolf.com --- 11 days ago
You can’t say enough things about Paul Newman , a great actor who judging by his charity work seemed to be just as good a guy. Newman was one of those real men who people think that America used to produce a lot more of (but in truth, are rare in any generation, including Newman’s .) So all the tributes for the deceased Newman are wonderful to see. Except when Jennie Garth gets involved. But there was Garth featured discussing Newman’s career in one of those entertainment shows (I stumbled across it clicking). Now, Garth used to be a pretty hot blonde during her 90210 days (though not in Tiffani Amber Thiessen’s league) and it’s nice that she’s trying to beat a few more paychecks out of that tired 90210 remake on The CW rather than ending up in one of those zonked out ex-celebrity police mug shots that many of her caliber peers have. But Jennie Garth Commenting on Paul Newman’s acting would be like Stephen Ames breaking down Jack Nicklaus’ swing. Or softball guy sauntering up to Ryan Howard and delivering home run hitting tips. Or TravelGolf.com blogger of tongues RonMon ripping on Travelin’ Joe . Sometimes you just have to know when you’re reaching out of your league. No one needs to hear Jennie Garth giving interviews on Paul Newman. Though, I’m sure Lifetime could use her in another movie of the week. ... Source: www.duncanriley.com --- 9 days ago

I've always said that blogging about fat and Commenting on fat blogs is a form of activism, and I stand by that statement. But offline activism is an important component of the movement and, frankly, we're collectively failing at it. For years and years NAAFA was held up as The National Organization™ for fat people but a few years ago, the fatosphere effectively called NAAFA out for its baggage-laden past and present-day inaction, effectively neutralizing nearly all of its power (such as it was) in the fatosphere and, arguably, outside of NAAFA itself. ISAA has been invisible in recent years. The Coalition of Fat Rights Activists is just getting started, and it may be months before its efforts bear fruit. But when things like the silly Alabama law break in the news, I don't turn to the site of any organization; I turn to the BFB Forums and other fat blogs. That's a good first step, but from what I saw there was very little asked about what we can do to change things - versus complaining about how things were awful. I agree! It does suck! Now what? This is where the power of having an organization or organizations on our side comes in. Ideally, this is something that is pounced on by said organization and an action with a clear goal is defined. Individual letters and phone calls do count, but when one can write and say that an x,000 strong organization is backing that same notion... that's more powerful. But for now we've got a few smal ...
