The Rockies have some big odds to overcome, but they feel a little better about their situation today because All-Star right-hander Aaron Cook is feeling better. Having eliminated back problems that bothered him for a couple of weeks, Cook turned in six strong innings Friday in a 9-4 victory over San Diego at Petco Park. That allowed Cook to earn his 16th victory, one shy of the franchise's single-season record. ... Source: msn.foxsports.com --- 5 days ago

Scott Olsen has had trouble handling the Rockies in the past. He'll get a chance to improve on his numbers against them today, as his Florida Marlins wrap a four-game series with Colorado at Dolphin Stadium. Olsen is 1-2 in four career starts with the Rockies and has an 11.09 earned run average against them. He did little to help those numbers the first time he faced Colorado this year, giving up nine runs, eight of which were earned, on 11 hits in a no-decision on July 4. Colorado won that wild contest, 18-17. The 24-year-old left-hander, who is 6-6 with a 4.04 ERA this year, allowed homers to Matt Holliday, Chris Iannetta and Ryan Spilborghs in that setback. Though he has lost two straight outings heading into today's start, he did pitch well on Tuesday versus the Mets. Olsen allowed just two runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings of a 4-1 setback. Getting Holliday out for a change might be the key for Olsen turning his career around versus the Rockies. Holliday has seven hits in 10 career at-bats versus Olsen, totaling two homers and three RBI. Iannetta, meanwhile, has two career hits in six at-bats against him, both home runs. Colorado will start 33-year-old Glendon Rusch today. Rusch had won three straight starts before getting a no-decision on Tuesday against the Pirates. He allowed three runs on six hits over five innings without a walk. ... Source: www.myrtlebeachonline.com --- 2 days ago
The National League's answer to Cleveland's Cliff Lee - bad team, good pitcher - takes the mound for the San Francisco Giants tonight in the second test of a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. Tim Lincecum, who's managed a 15-3 record for a team that's lost 19 more games than it's won, faces the Rockies while looking to extend a three-start winning streak and a seven-start unbeaten streak in this, his first full big-league year. Incidentally, the Indians' Lee improved to 20-2 on Monday for a Cleveland team that's just 66-70 overall. ... Source: www.mysportsbook.com --- 24 days ago
