bigmouth_strikes writes "A few weeks ago it was announced that British game developers Codemasters have received the exclusive right to develop and publish video games using the "Formula One" brand name. This was after Sony and Formula One Management didn't renew their contract that have made the Playstation platform the only choice for gamers wanting "official" games since 2003. The earlier Sony exclusive right and decision to only release for the Playstation platform has led to active fan-created content for various racing simulation engines, such as rFactor for the PC. The official Formula One website has a brief interview/promo piece with Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens about their hopes and intentions for the game and platforms — which will include Xbox 360 and Wii. David and Richard Darling, the founding duo behind long-running British development house Codemasters were recently named Commanders of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in recognition for their contributions to the gaming industry. Codemasters has been developing games and accessories for more than two decades. Included among their accomplishments is the creation of the Game Genie as well as the widely beloved Sensible Soccer series. The honor is part of a hierarchy of official honorary titles, which includes the more familiar "knighting." Though that honor is one rank above what the Darling brothers received, theirs is still a rare and impressive accomplishment. Just got word from Codemasters regarding a new competition where players can design their own Codemasters Racing Team livery and submit it for inclusion in the game as downloadable content. Here's the initial details about the competition from Codemasters: Weve always said that GRID was going to be supported with post-release Downloadable Content (DLC for short), but weve never really allowed ourselves to be drawn on the content itself. Today, Were officially announcing the first car to be included, and offering a unique chance to make your mark on it. That Car, the first of several officially-licensed cars to be included in the pack, the McLaren F1 GTR (for aficionados, thats the early short-tail version). Youll be able to read more info on this awesome car here in a new Car Focus article. Now, to the competition. What we want you to do is design us a livery for the Car- an official Codemasters Racing Team livery. You dont have to be a pixel-pushing whiz, were looking for a striking design, making good use of the shape of the car and the sponsor logo. Its the design that were interested in, not necessarily the art skill used to get it across. The base colours are fairly free- you can see that our logo appears in lots of different colors, depending on where it appears.
