For the third consecutive year, Citizens Bank is collecting new school supplies for low-income children in Massachusetts. Pencils, pens, notebooks and other supplies can be donated at any Citizens Bank branch in the state through Aug. 2. This year’s Gear for Grades program is supported by Greater Media and Cradles to Crayons. Formerly known as “Tools for School,” the program has helped nearly 5,000 children return to school with the essential supplies they need to succeed. “Topeka 101: A Citizens’ Academy” is for those who want to know how City government really works. Citizens and department directors will delve into such fascinating topics as City Budget in a session entitled “Show Me the Money.” Other topics covered will be Police and Fire (“It’s Hot in Topeka”), Water Production (“Refreshingly Topeka”), Planning and Development Services (“Building Blocks”), and challenges with Code Compliance and Housing and Neighborhood Development issues (“It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”).
