It’s official: Nancy Pelosi has not one but TWO opponents in a “hotly” contested race for her Congressional district. Monday, August 4th, 2008 SOS PART II ...FROM Cindy Sheehan SF DEPARTMENT OF ELECTIONS HANKY-PANKY? We just got an official report from the Department of Elections here in San Francisco. They "randomly" sampled 531 of the 10,856 signatures that we turned in. They are "challenging" 231 and "allowing" 300. That means, after posting a 22% failure rate when we turned in our signatures in "lieu" of a filing fee (which Independents have to get anyway, there is no "filing fee" allowed, in lieu of anything), we have posted an INCREDIBLY hard to believe 43.5% failure rate and we need 2,116 more valid signatures by Friday at 5:00 PM. We can do it but we need help. Please forward this around so people can help us, or donate so we can pay professionals (signature gatherers/lawyers) to help get the voice of the people on the ballot. American anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan is back in the news after a prolonged absence. She has mounted a challenge to one of the most powerful Democrats in the United States, Nancy Pelosi. She will challenge Pelosi for her seat in Congress this November. Sheehan is running as an independent candidate where the rules heavily favour major party candidates, but she has already cleared a major hurdle in simply qualifying for the ballot. "We're very excited," said Sheehan, 51, the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq who is well-known for her protest outside President Bush's Texas ranch. "Now we have to get organized and regroup." Republican Dana Walsh and Libertarian Philip Berg will join Pelosi and Sheehan on the Nov. 4 ballot. The collection of signatures by Sheehan's campaign was more exciting than usual. On Wednesday, the campaign was well short of the 10,198 signatures needed to get on the ballot after San Francisco elections officials found that ... Source: www.michaelmoore.com --- 10 days ago

Friday, August 8th, 2008 SIGNATURE UPDATE FROM Cindy FOR CONGRESS ...BY Cindy Sheehan Dear Friends, Thanks for all the encouragement and help. Wednesday afternoon we turned in 431 signatures and the the DOE gave us 196 valid signatures from that. Then, surprisingly, the Dept of Elections found 112 more good signatures from the first batch we turned in...so now we need 208 valid signatures by 5:00 PM today, August 8th. We are turned in 780 signatures first thing this morning...so I am cautiously optimistic that we will qualify with those signatures, but nevertheless, we still have people out getting signatures and we will collect signatures all day until the DOE confirms that we have qualified. If we don't qualify with what we have by 5:00 PM, the next step is taking it to the courts and demand that a truly non-partisan entity count our signatures. There are some good things about this: Our plight has gone viral and new volunteers have been coming in all week to help and more people have been swarming into the office to sign the petition. Today was the first day that I had an infusion of hope that we have a really good chance of winning (a fair election)! Another great thing is that we have turned in about 18,000 signatures and that is 18,000 votes. We are 1/2 of the way to taking about 1/2 of Pelosi's votes, and that is all we need to win in November! On to the campaign and on to victory. As soon as we get the call that we qualified, ... Thursday, August 7th, 2008 EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! ...FROM Cindy Sheehan Cindy for Congress still needs thousands of signatures by 5 PM tomorrow. The percentage of "valid" signatures that the SF Department of Elections are allowing is getting lower and lower as we get closer to our goal. We turned in 1,932 on Monday and they invalidated 49% of the signatures. We turned in 425 yesterday and they invalidated 78% of them. The thing about that, is that I personally checked every signature in that batch, and I came up with a 55-60% valid rate. We figure at this rate, we need to turn in 3,000 by tomorrow at 5 PM. HELP! HELP! HELP! The disenfranchisement of the homeless population here in SF is criminal and this is obviously the population that is strongly in support of my campaign because they are the ones that have been screwed over the most by this (cyst)em and they know the people in power are only there to preserve their power, not help the people who need to be helped. Please forward this to everyone that you know...and every media outlet that you know. We are going to do it because we are not going to let down the thousands of people who support our campaign and know that it is urgent to get the people's voice on the ballot and in Congress! Cindy Sheehan to Run Against Speaker Pelosi Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan is now officially on the November ballot. The mother of an Iraq war veteran killed in 2005 gathered enough signatures to run as an independent for Nancy Pelosi's congressional seat. But the grassroots campaign is struggling for the support of many of Sheehans own fans, who think she's veered too far off her anti-war focus, and that there are far worse members of congress that need to be removed from office than Speaker of the house Pelosi.
