The classic rock band Yes, which was forced to cancel their 40th anniversary tour this year due to the illness of its lead singer, has decided to relaunch the tour with an "understudy" - a Yes tribute band singer. Benoit David, who sings in several Yes tribute bands in Montreal, will replace Jon Anderson on the "In the Present" tour, which kicks of Nov. 4 in Ontario, Canada, according to bassist Chris Squire. "I think it's all going to work out fine," Squire told The Associated Press on Wednesday. "Of course, realistically, there's an element of risk, but there always is." Yes, which consists of Squire, Anderson, guitarist Steve Howe and drummer Alan White, scrapped their anniversary tour in June after Anderson suffered acute respiratory failure and was ordered by doctors to rest six months. Squire found David on the Internet after a friend sent him a YouTube clip of David's tribute band, Close To The Edge. Squire liked what he saw and called David to offer an audition. "The first thing he said to me was, 'Well, I'm looking around to see where the cameras are in case I'm being punked,'" Squire said. Yes has taken a page from another classic rock group, Journey, who selected Arnel Pineda, a sound-a-like of old lead singer Steve Perry, to be their singer after the group discovered him singing Journey songs on YouTube. Pineda sang on the group's successful comeback album this year and has also been touring with them. It's not the fir ... Source: www.sohbanet.com --- 62 days ago

*_World Wrestling Entertainment: Return of the Power_ * For the past few years, World Wrestling Entertainment has been rather mediocre, and not up to the standards of the previous ‘power’ years of the company. After what some call an underrated year in 2005, 2006 started off hot, but couldn’t pick up the steam as the year progressed. Then it was the year 2007. And it was a year of injuries, scandals, and wasted potential. The first big hit was at New Year’s Revolution when Triple H tore his quadriceps muscle, putting him out of action until August. After WrestleMania, things were looking quite good. Until Mr. Kennedy would find himself on the injured list, as well as The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. The next big thing to occur, was the tragedy and absolute stunner known as the ‘Chris Benoit fiasco’ that led to the suspensions of several key pieces to the WWE roster. And if that wasn’t enough, Edge found himself on the injured list, and in October, the top draw in the company John Cena would also get an injury that at the time looked like the nail in the coffin for the next year to have any success. There wasn’t a chance it could, right? Well the WWE found an element that had been misguided from them for the last few years. A key attribute to the ‘Attitude Era.’ *The element of surprise.* It all began at the Most Famous Arena in the World, Madison Square Garden which held the Royal Rumble. No one could have predicted what would occur ... Source: www.wrestlingforum.com --- 9 days ago
Ok so I was just in another thread where a debate started to break out regarding who was the biggest star in 2000 between the Rock and HHH. Im going to take a quick trip down memory lane for everyone(this is solely off my memory so if I forget anything please let me know and include it in ur rebuttal) The rock was the hero of the year 2000. The biggest face, the peoples champion and had quite the religious following. The Rock in 2000(late 99) is what made me start back watching wrestling in the first place after a 5 year hiatus. Anyways The Rock started 2000 off with a bang by winning the royal rumble, he lost his #1 contenders spot to big show at no way out, but still found his way back in the main event at wrestlemania thanks to vince Mcmahon. The rock lost at wrestlemania in what some may call the most disappointing wrestlemania main event ever but would win the title a month later at backlash. The rock then wrestled only the second iron match in history where he lost the title thanks to the undertaker. He won the title back at king of the ring by pinning the man who cost him his wrestlemania win, vince mcmahon in what I like to think fo as, poetic justice. The rock defended his title in triple threat matches, fatal fourways, a war with Chris Benoit, and lost it at no mercy against kurt angle. The rock didnt gain the title back that year but was included in a match against rikishi in an attempt to make that fat ass a main eventer an ... Twelve World championships. It's hard to say which one was most significant in the career of Triple H. Personally; I believe the most emotional victory for Triple H came in the main event at WrestleMania X8. Almost a year earlier Hunter had torn his quadriceps muscle during a tag team title match with Stone Cold Steve Austin against Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit. Triple H gallantly continued that match but eight months of therapy and rehabilitation waited for him on the other side of the curtain. WrestleMania was his first title match back. There's no doubt that the undercard match between Hulk Hogan and The Rock overshadowed the main event that night in the Toronto Skydome... ... Source: blogs.riverfronttimes.com --- 10 days ago
It's too easy just to blog the word "NO" for this announcement, so instead I'm going to post the two pertinent parts of the press release accompanying the show announcement for YES -- or rather, "Steve Howe, Chris Squire and Alan White of YES" on their "In the Present" tour. This jaunt hits the Pageant on Tuesday, December 2. The three will be joined by keyboardist Oliver Wakeman, the son of YES’ Rick Wakeman, and vocalist Benoit David, a Montreal, Quebec, native and vocalist in several YES tribute groups, who was discovered by the band on the Internet. YES postponed plans for a 40th anniversary "Close to the Edge and Back" tour in June, when vocalist Jon Anderson suffered a severe asthma attack and was diagnosed with acute respiratory failure. Commented Squire: "This isn't an attempt to replace Jon Anderson, because as we all know, that would be impossible. With Benoit, we are bringing in a talented singer so that we can go out and honor the music of YES for the fans who have waited for the past four years to see us perform." ...

Yes, the group known for songs such as "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "Roundabout," will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington. The group includes guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire and drummer Alan White and will be joined by keyboardist Oliver Wakeman and vocalist Benoit David filling in for lead singer Jon Anderson, who suffered acute respiratory failure and was ordered to rest for months, The Associated Press reported. The band formed in 1968, when Squire and Anderson joined with drummer Bill Bruford, guitarist Peter Banks and keyboardist Tony Kaye. It earned a residency at London's famed Marquee Club and released a debut album in July 1969. Howe and White joined the band in the 1970s. Tickets are $45, $65 and $85 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Coliseum box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and by phone at 454-5500. Benefit for late musician The Beat Goes On, a celebration of the life of the late local musician Vince Kuhn, will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ault Park, 1839 Highview Road, East Peoria. There will be eight bands (including local favorites Dave Chastain and Robin Crowe), a cookout, raffles and a silent auction. Donations will be accepted, and proceeds will go toward his family's medical expenses. Kuhn, who was born in Peoria and played musical gigs for 37 years, died of a heart attack on Sept. 6. He was 54. ... Source: www.gamers.fr --- 95 days ago
