I spent last weekend in Western Massachusetts, visiting my parents and enjoying a summer performance in the fresh mountain air at Tanglewood. Freed from the seemingly endless To Do list of my Cambridge life, I embraced one of those projects that nearly always ends up at the bottom of the pile. I descended into my parents’ basement to winnow a few [...] ...

* Image Credit: OliverAlex I have noticed recently that I don’t feel like I am getting older. Sure, the outward evidence is there and yes there is enough gray hair to notice the effects. Thomas Passmore, a man in his late thirties, arrives jetlagged from Australia to visit his sick mother and track down and lay some of the ghosts of his past. He's married with three young children but still Dreams about a girlfriend from his teens called Kate, and wrestles with memories of his dead father, who killed himself, and his Childhood friend Gazza, who died joyriding a stolen car. Childhood obesity is getting worse, with a shocking two-thirds of our kids set to be dangerously fat by 2050. It’s the most extreme sanction you can levy against a parent but, sadly, now it seems necessary for a small minority. Last month, we shared an e-mail we (and probably you) got in support of Travertine, a Mediterranean restaurant planned for 19 Kenmare Street. Despite loud neighborhood opposition (as in actual hisses), owner Danae Cappelletto got the nod for a liquor license from Community Board 2. How'd she swing that? Cappelletto and her brother asked Mark Thompson of Capalino + Company to convince CB2 members of their good intentions. In short, they hired a lobbyist. In an interview with the Observer , Cappelletto referred to Thompson as Batman, able to swoop in and save their Childhood Dreams of owning a restaurant. Take note, aspiring restaurateurs: Before you get the chef, plan the menu, or pick out the china, find some hired help to sweet-talk the neighbors. Third Time's a Charmer [NYO] ...
