In an effort to save the dwindling primate population in and around the village of Mae On, the Flight of the Gibbon Conservation Project and local villagers have teamed up to form the Primate Habitat Restoration Project. Volunteers and employees of Flight of the Gibbon will plant 1500 fruit trees in a designated, protected habitat area and will act as a refuge and a food source for the primates. Is this hotel still scheduled to open 2009, or did something happen? I saw it listed in a Park Hyat brochure when we were at the PH Tokyo recently, but I was just on the Hyatt site and there is no mention, but it does mention a new hotel due in 2010 at Koh Samui. So have they shelved Chiang Mai plans? I was looking forward to using the Hyatt as an excuse to go there again, so I will be disappointed if they have. ... hi all just to chat about the night life in Chiang Mai , there is the Chiang Mai entertainment complex which has about 20 bars , with pool tables , also a show of muay thai boxing , the real fights are every 2 weeks and cost 400 baht a ticket .. check out the 69 bar at the start of the complex , its a small bar but very friendly and have great beers cocktails ... Its a beautiful city, otherwise I wont be here for almost three weeks. Its charming, seemingly provincial compared to Mega Manila. But definitely more charming by a margin of 1 million points. The trouble is the public transport. Can they just put numbers or name plates to indicate where those very few JEEPNEYS are heading. I mean the routes. We arrived in Chiang Mai completely exhausted-- in the same stretch of time we rode the 3 hour ferry back to the Mainland, got a 10 hr bus to Bangkok, a taxi to the wrong airport, a taxi to the right airport, and then a 2 hr flight to the northern part of Thailand- Chiang Mai.This area is known for its jungle trekking and specifically elephant trekking. We have got well into the Laos way of life in the past couple of weeks relaxing and appreciating all the different things around us. You couldn't describe anything we have seen as spectacular but our time here has definitely been some of the best time we have spent in SE Asia.
