Related Articles Dissolution and powder flow characterization of solid self-emulsified drug delivery system (SEDDS). Int J Pharm. 2008 Sep 10; Authors: Agarwal V, Siddiqui A, Ali H, Nazzal S In this study, the dynamics of powder flow upon griseofulvin-self-emulsified drug delivery system (SEDDS) in addition to silica and silicates and the effect of these adsorbents upon adsorption on drug release were investigated. SEDDS was adsorbed at SEDDS/adsorbent ratios from 0.25:1 to 3:1 on magnesium aluminum silicate [5 and 80mum], calcium silicate [25mum], and silicon dioxide [3.6, 20, and 300mum]. Powder flow was evaluated using the powder rheometer and compared to angle of repose. Release of drug from a 1:1 SEDDS/adsorbent powder was determined by dissolution using USP Type 2 apparatus. Powder rheometer profiles indicated that effect of SEDDS on the flow behavior of the adsorbents could be correlated to stepwise or continuous growing behavior as observed in wet granulation process. However, due to their porous nature, adsorbents exhibited an initial lag phase during which no change in flow was observed. Dissolution of drug from adsorbed-SEDDS was found to be dependent on pore length and nucleation at the lipid/adsorbent interface. Increase in dissolution rate was observed with an increase in surface area and was independent of the Chemical nature of the adsorbents. Therefore, in order to manufacture free flowing powder containing liquid SED ... Source: www.reuters.com --- 96 days ago

Usage Restrictions: None. Scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the University of California at Berkeley have created the world's first all-integrated sensor circuit based on nanowire arrays, combining light sensors and electronics made of different crystalline materials. Their method can be used to reproduce numerous such devices with high uniformity. Nanostructures made with specific Chemical, electronic, and other properties have a number of advantages over the same materials in bulk. For example, a nanowire is an ideal shape for a light detector; being virtually one-dimensional, practically "all surface," a nanowire is not only highly sensitive to light energy, but its electronic response is greatly enhanced as well. To be practical, however, the photosensors must be integrated with electronics on the same chip. And the materials that make an ideal photosensor are necessarily different from those that make a good transistor. "Our integration of arrays of nanowires that perform separate functions and are made of heterogeneous substances – and doing this in a way that can be reproduced on a large scale in a controlled way – is a first," says Ali Javey, who led the research team.
