But owners eat at Dunkin' Donuts. Or at least that's what McLane at Black Jesus Disciples writes , after coming across Robert Sarver at the donut shop on Labor Day morning: I'll admit that upon seeing him I momentarily froze, as the last person I expected to see enjoying a delicious eclair at my local donut hole was Robert Sarver. He gave me a bit of strange look as I came in, perhaps because he'd never seen a Bad Brains t-shirt before. I can't imagine Mormon bankers are exposed to much hardcore goodness in their lives. Either that or I was staring. I may have been staring. He and his brood left soon after my daughters and I placed our order, but not until he meticulously cleaned the table they used. ...

Filed under: From the boards , Competitive strategy , Cheesecake Factory (CAKE) , Entrepreneurs , Bargain stocks A fund affiliated with restaurant super-investor Nelson Peltz has acquired a 14% stake in Cheesecake Factory (NASDAQ: CAKE ), sending shares of the dining chain up 10% on Wednesday. The company said that it "has had a preliminary conversation with Triarc (Pelz's firm) already, and looks forward to continuing that dialogue." According (subscription required) to the Wall Street Journal , "Mr. Peltz has bought stakes in several other restaurant and food companies, including Wendy's International Inc .(NYSE: WEN ) and H.J. Heinz Co (NYSE: HNZ ). At those companies, he has pressed directors and executives to sell brands, increase marketing or otherwise change their strategies in an effort to raise their stock prices. Mr. Peltz has said he prefers to work with existing management to effect change, though in the past his involvement has prompted reshuffling of company management and boards." Cheesecake Factory has struggled to provide investors with strong returns over the past few years, and was scraping a multi-year low before the Petlz announcement sent the stock up. As recently as January, there were rumors that Cheesecake Factory would be taken private at a big premium. At the time, I wrote that "If the Cheesecake Factory Inc. is taken private at a substantial premium to its current market cap of $2.1 billion, it will be look ...

Today, the Cheesecake Factory celebrates their 30th anniversary with 30 different varieties of Cheesecake -- for only $1.50 each slice. That's the price they charged in 1978 when the first Cheesecake Factory opened. And, of course, today is National Cheesecake Day, so you have even more of an excuse to have your Cheesecake and eat it too. In addition, a new chocolate Cheesecake will launch today, with 25 cents from each sale going to American's Second Harvest. Stop by one of the 143 locations nationwide, or one of the locations in Las Vegas (all are open till 11 p.m.) -- the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, Green Valley Ranch at the District (the side with Whole Foods), or The Shops at Boca Park at Rampart in Summerlin. Some restrictions: dine-in only, today only (July 30), and only one Cheesecake slice per person. ...

No?

With Cheesecake slices at the Cheesecake Factory (NASDAQ: CAKE ) going for up to $6-a-slice, the celebration of National Cheesecake Day gives us Cheesecake lovers an opportunity to go get an inexpensive slice of Cheesecake at the restaurant. Today slices are going for $1.50. Not bad! The caveat is you do have to dine-in to get the discounted dessert. Customers get one Cheesecake slice each. It does seem obvious, but these types of promotions are almost always successful for customers, and are definitely needed during these types of economic times where people are counting their pennies. ...

There's nothing better than a discount during tough economic times to remind people of your products. That's what the Cheesecake Factory (NASDAQ: CAKE ) is doing today, by offering up $1.50 slices to their customers. When some of our products are considered more luxuries than necessities, we need to do whatever we can during these times to keep them in the minds of consumers. In this case, Cheesecake isn't considered a necessity by most people, rather it's more of a guilty pleasure. Because it usually costs more, it's one of those products not apt to be purchased by consumers when deciding how to allocate their resources. So to that end, taking advantage of a day like National Cheesecake day is a good excuse to market to consumers with this type of discount. Continue Reading ...

It’s National Cheesecake Day, after all. No one will ever mistake the Cheesecake Factory for a health-food emporium, but in light of America’s obesity epidemic one would think that discretion would “outweigh” a blatant promotional vehicle.  Yeah, right.  Check out CF’s high-calorie exploitation here . Buck-and-a-half for your month’s worth of glorp. Discounts, freebies, etc., may work for certain commodities and brands.  As a rule, however, discounting is like fine perfume.  A little bit goes a long, long way.  Years ago, consumer brands were tarnished and damaged by brand managers who couldn’t resist hacking and hewing at prices via coupons, carpet-bomb discounts, and other tactics aimed to move merchandise in a hurry.  Results?  Mixed at best.  It’s slightly different when it’s coffee (see Starbuck’s promotion, earlier this year) or dessert, however.  Still, adding incentive for wolfing down more hollow calories gives me heartburn. ...

An email I received not too long ago from my good friend Tonie... Hey there, I thought I'd let you know of something I heard... Wednesday, July 30th is National Cheesecake Day! I actually called The Cheesecake Factory to verify this information and they explained that they will be offering slices (regular size) for $1.50 for their dining customers. So, you could possibly order a few appetizers and then a slice of Cheesecake- — one slice per person. Anyway...I thought I'd let you know. I hope you're doing well.
