Charlotte police say two brothers have been shot and killed on a city street. Police say 18-year-old Terry Long and 17-year-old Joshua Davis of Charlotte were shot about10:30 p.m. Monday. Lakeem Jackson, a well-regarded wing player from Charlotte, has the Gamecocks as his top choice, according to his coach and older brother. This morning was downright cool in the Charlotte region -- cool enough to break a record that had stood for more than a century. The temperature at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport was 56 at about 5:30 a.m., breaking the July 2 record of 58, set in 1885. The normal low for this time of year is 70. It'll warm up quickly today, though. Temperatures today are expected to peak at 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. But it'll still feel pleasant because of humidity levels between 20 and 25 percent, said NWS meteorologist Doug Outlaw. Conditions will be cool again overnight, with the low descending to 59, one degree warmer than the record for July 3, set in 1932. And the Fourth of July is expected to be warm and dry, with a high of 92 and "a very, very minimal chance" of rain, Outlaw said. UPDATED 12:10 P.M. EATON TWP. � A woman was airlifted after being injured when the SUV she was driving was struck by a train at a crossing north of Charlotte this morning, according to emergency officials. The accident happened at about 9:26 a.m. where Fairview Highway crosses railroad tracks. There are no crossing arms at the location. Eaton County Sheriff�s officials said the driver�s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Officials on scene said a Grand Trunk Railroad train was traveling westbound. The car was traveling southbound on the gravel road and was thrown into a nearby creek. Neighbors in the area said arms were to be installed in coming weeks. Daniel Rosenberger, whose property abuts the railroad, said he heard the accident. The Cadillac Escalade was thrown into a creek on his property. The crossing is dangerous, he said. Two years ago someone was killed in an accident there. He pointed to a cross marker near the creek, mostly obscured by weeds. No further details were immediately available.
