(On if there will be a different level of kicking in when he takes the first snap against his former team Sunday) "I think the biggest difference, I'm used to playing against former teammates, I've never played against a former team. That will be the biggest difference, playing against a former team. Above all of that, opening day is exciting in the NFL. I think that's one of the favorite days of all NFL players is opening day. There's something about opening day that gives a playoff-type atmosphere and a playoff-type feel. That's what we're excited about and all 32 teams have an opportunity and a chance to start 1-0 and to really get the season started off right. That's what we're excited about." ...

• Miami at New England: Prior to the game, Dolphins Tony Sparano coach hinted that his defenders would look to get physical with Randy Moss today, and judging from his play so far (3 catches for 18 yards in the first half), I'd say that plan is working to perfection. Miami led 21-6 at the half. (Oh, and in case you're wondering about Ronnie Brown, he just announced that he's running for governor of Florida. Voters will surely be impressed by his three first half TD's on only 37 yards. and a 19-yard TD throw to Anthony Fasano to give the 'Fins a 28-6 lead midway through quarter number three.) The only thing close to being as impressive as Brown's showing thus far, was Chad Pennington's first half performance. The be-shitted QB played near-perfect football, completing 80% of his pass attempts. • Chiefs at Falcons: The Falcons defense almost threw a shutout against the Chiefs, leading 24 to zilch with seconds remaining before the halftime break. However, Tyler Thigpen found Dwayne Wade Bowe for a last-second score. By the way, the Chiefs are the first team since 1970 to start three different quarterbacks in the first three weeks. Uh, that's not good kids. Michael Turner has two rushing touchdowns for the Dirty Birds so far, and Matt Ryan connected with Roddy White for a 70-yard scoring bomb just before the first quarter ended. (Quite likely the longest pass Falcons fans have seen since a certain canine-loving quarterback was at the ...

The noodle-armed Pennington is back after a bye week hiatus and he gets the San Diego Chargers at home. On paper, this looks like a pretty tasty match-up for Chad. The Chargers consistently give up passing yards and points, and they have to travel across the country to play a Dolphins team that has some momentum and confidence from their thrashing of the Patriots in Week 3. San Diego's offense should continue to roll and force the Dolphins to throw plenty. I'm thinking 270 yds, 2 tds and 1 int - which definitely makes him startable. What do you guys think is realistic for Pennington stat-wise this week? ...

While watching the Miami Dolphins humiliate the San Diego Chargers yesterday, I had a stunning revelation. Fins quarterback Chad Pennington looks exactly like Michael Cera of "Superbad" and "Arrested Development" fame. Even though Pennington has a good 12 years on Cera, they both look like they're about 14 years old. Original Story: http://www.sportable.com/2008/10/06/Chad... . ...

Filed under: Dolphins , AFC East This is the first I'm hearing of this, but, apparently, Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington has a noodle arm . And not only that, he's been plagued with the affliction his entire football career. Weird. Well, he's had enough; after unceremoniously losing his job to Kellen Clemens last year in New York, Pennington decided to do something about it. He got together with his trainer Charles Petrone to meticulously reexamine his approach to throwing a football . The quarterback conducted an extensive study into how he could alter his throwing mechanics to increase his velocity while maintaining his accuracy. Then, he and Petrone took his newfound devotion to the weight room. Pennington and Petrone also sought assistance from a body alignment specialist and a rehabilitation specialist. ''We basically brought in a whole Team Pennington, and I was making sure everybody was doing their job,'' Petrone said. ``So this year will be even better because he's getting these alignments done and he's getting healthy. ``He has all this power, and his body feels good.'' That's all well and good, but I'll be honest, I haven't noticed any difference in Pennington's fastball. That's not to say he's a bad quarterback, or can't make it in the NFL (since, you, know, he's pretty good, and has been in the league for nine seasons), just that he still seems to be bringing the Charlie Hough heater. If Pennington were really se ...

Filed under: Dolphins , AFC East , NFL Coaching There weren't a lot of positives in the Dolphins 31-10 loss to the Cardinals last Sunday, but fans got a glimpse of the future. With 9:38 to go in the fourth quarter, rookie second-round pick Chad Henne took the first regular-season snap of his NFL career, and all things considered, he did fine, completing 7 of 12 passes for 67 yards. Henne replaced newly acquired Chad Pennington , who went 10 of 20 for 112 yards before head coach Tony Sparano took mercy on his soul midway through the final quarter. But don't mistake the move as an indication that the Pennington era is over after two weeks. Just the opposite, in fact : Sparano unequivocally stated Henne had no chance of starting against the Patriots after Sunday's defeat, and reiterated that in his news conference Monday. Sparano said Pennington is not the reason the Dolphins' offense has been anemic, and indicated the team is not going to make a knee-jerk reaction despite starting the season with two losses. The Dolphins are sticking to their plan to bring along Henne as their quarterback of the future, rather than accelerating his development Can't be much clearer than that, I think. Presumably, this also includes the Dolphins' long-term plans for last year's second-rounder, John Beck . Which is to say: he's not in them ( Thanks, Cam, Randy ). As for the present, one of the many benefits of coming off a 1-15 campaign, is that ther ...
