Some area residents are looking to the stars for their November decision. Celebrities have been particularly outspoken this election season, favoring their presidential pick through public Endorsements and fundraising events. While some local officials applaud their activism, others question their role in politics. State Rep. John Fernandes, D-Milford, credited celebrities' efforts for motivating people to vote. "I respect the fact that people who have a voice will use it to advocate, whether it be to get out and vote or vote for a particular candidate," Fernandes said. "You can't knock the message they're sending." Milford Town Clerk Amy Hennessy Neves agreed. "Whatever outlet that is used to help get the word out there and to get people interested in voting is a plus," she said. But Medway resident Darla Prentice thinks Celebrity Endorsements are "wrong." "People are influenced by celebrities ... and most times their opinions have nothing to do with a candidate's beliefs," she said. Prentice, who doesn't consider herself highly political, said a Celebrity endorsement wouldn't sway her vote. "I think people should listen to the candidates and make their own judgment," she said.
