Does anyone still play Nintendogs? The Game with the cute puppies you can touch and play Frisbee with brought the Nintendo DS into countless hands when it was released in 2005, moving millions of units. Suddenly, handhelds were flying off the shelves, and videogame fanatics finally had the means to spread our gaming gospel to those who would have none of it for years. I picked up my own copy with the first DS I bought, to get a taste of the phenomenon. And I legitimately enjoyed it, much as I enjoyed the Tamagotchi I once owned. That is to say, I enjoyed it for about a week before shelving it. I passed it along when I bought someone a DS Lite as a present to introduce them to my passion, shovelware to complement New Super Mario Bros and Meteos. Don't get me wrong, I get it: Casual games are the bait, the proverbial foot-wetting that leads the uninitiated to the deep end of the pool. Enjoying Brain Age ? Why not try Professor Layton . Wii Sports got you and your friends all riled up? Good news, here's Mario Strikers. And now, this? Every year during E3 season, when the latest me-too hi-res shooter, debuting on whatever next-gen console, attempts to do what my self-built gaming rigs have been doing for years, I take comfort in the fact that Nintendo and any third-party developers toeing the line will provide something new, and fun, and different. Metroid Prime , Mario Galaxy , No More Heroes ... a quick smattering of titles that to ...

PlayCrafter is a new web application that lets anyone create custom games by dragging and dropping elements around the screen. Built with Flex, Adobe's Ryan Stewart calls PlayCrafter part of "a whole new world of Flex!" It's really easy to use and a whole lot of fun. If you read our coverage of the awesome drag and drop widget building tool SproutBuilder , think of PlayCrafter as the same kind of tool but for Game creation. Read on for one example Game and a demo video. PlayCrafter is another example of the way the new web is enabling users to become creators and blowing up the world of content options everyone has to engage with. We love this kind of stuff. Adobe's success in creating tools that allow other people to create tools that enable other people still to create content is remarkable. Below is one of the games the site offers as an example of what you can build. It's fun to play. If you create a cool Game in PlayCrafter, embed it someplace and leave a link in the comments below. ...

LittleBigPlanet, developed by Media Molecule and published by Sony Computer Entertainment After the results of the Game Critics Awards were announced two weeks ago, we reached out to several winners for their reactions and some updates about their games in progress. Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet triumphed in two categories: Best Console Game and Best Social/Casual/Puzzle Game. We emailed some questions to Mark Healey, creative director at Media Molecule. Here's what he wrote back: Normal 0 Last year, LittleBigPlanet won Best Original Game. This year, it won Best Console Game. Do you feel as though you've graduated with this year's win? Were you surprised that LBP beat Rock Band 2 and Guitar hero World Tour for best Social/Casual/Puzzle Game? It's always nice to win things--and these two awards are especially cool--but the fact the these are awarded to an unfinished Game is quite scary--it shows that there is a lot of expectation for LBP--but luckily we're all really proud of what we've created here at MM, and I'm sure we'll more than meet people's expectations. Once it's out there, and it starts evolving, that's when the fun really begins... How have you gone about recruiting other developers inside and outside of Sony to create levels in LittleBigPlanet? Well, internally, everyone here is constantly dabbling with the creative tools--it's hard to get any work done sometimes, as it really is a lot of fun--there was a whole day ...
