Posted by ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky CANTON, Ohio -- In-game thoughts from the dark front row of the press box at Fawcett Stadium: You're welcome, Jason Campbell . The Colts started the game with an onside kick, and failed to recover. Washington and its new offense began the game on the Colts' 45-yard line. Three plays and Campbell had a 20-yard TD pass to Antwaan Randle El . Indy was happy to oblige as the Skins try to get their new stuff off the ground. Washington defensive linemen Jason Taylor , Andre Carter and Cornelius Griffin are in uniforms, minus pads, sleeves rolled up. A winning, comfort-and-cool combination on the bench. What, no lounge chairs? Joseph Addai went out in the first series out with what officials deemed a "head injury." No way were we going to see him again. In the middle of the second quarter he was hanging with the running backs on the sideline. The Colts front-line offense did well to get from third-and-long to second-and-manageable twice in its first (only?) drive. Skins corner Fred Smoot should have ended it when a bad pass for Reggie Wayne hit him at the goal line, but he dropped it. Jim Sorgi found a lot of the Colts basic passes, then they got to the red zone and he couldn't finish things. And yup, that was it for Sorgi. Colts Center Jamey Richard created a mini-stat team controversy when he snapped a ball through the end zone for a second-quarter safety. However, as it's officially written up in the pres ...

FRANKFORT . The 26-story Capital Plaza Office tower that dominates the skyline of Kentucky's capital city might come down. A Lexington architectural firm is recommending demolition of the office tower and construction of a new five-story building nearby. The recommendations are contained in the .Facility Assessment Report and Recommendations. document that Sherman-Carter-Barnhart Associates prepared for the state involving the Capital Plaza Complex in downtown Frankfort. The complex, built in the late 1960s and known for its extensive use of concrete, includes the tower, plaza, garage, Fountain Place Shops and Frankfort Convention Center. ...

By Aaron J. Lopez Put me down for a 48. Normally, that would be my score on the front 9 at the local muni, but right now I'm talking Nuggets basketball. After going over the 2008-09 season, I've come up with 48 wins for a Nuggets team that won 50 last season but lost starting Center Marcus Camby in a cost-cutting move this summer. Most of you are probably thinking I've had a few too many shots of Hornitos the blue-and-gold Kool-Aid, but the Nuggets remain loaded with talent. A starting lineup of Carmelo Anthony at small forward, Kenyon Martin at power forward, Nene at Center, Allen Iverson at shooting guard and Chucky Atkins at the point looks pretty good on paper. Assuming free-agent guard J.R. Smith returns as expected, the Nuggets' bench will be an interesting energy group of Smith, point guard Anthony Carter and forwards Chris Andersen and Linas Kleiza. My prediction of 48 wins is based upon the Nuggets avoiding major brawls having a healthy roster, something that hasn't been the case since Anthony's rookie season in 2003-04. Most NBA coaches won't admit it, but they've probably already charted out potential wins and losses after seeing the final schedule this week. All that being said, let's look at how I arrived at my very unscientific conclusion: OCTOBER - 2 games (2 home, 0 road) The Nuggets will have a hard time beating the defending NW Division champion Jazz in Salt Lake City in the opener - especially without Anthony (t ...

Healdton police and Carter County deputies are investigating the death of a woman found unconscious and lying in a pool of blood at a local residence Saturday night. The victim was identified Sunday as Connie Griffith, who was also known as Connie Whitlock. Police responded to a call for help from a Rocky Road residence. When they arrived on the scene they found the victim, who appeared to have suffered head injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Mercy Memorial Health Center in Ardmore, where she died a short time later. Deputies were called in to assist with the investigation. District Attorney Craig Ladd called the woman’s death “very suspicious,” adding the victim’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy. “I’ve talked with the ME’s office and hope to have some preliminary information by Monday,” Ladd said. No arrests were immediately made, but there were “persons of interest,” he said.   ...

A local woman’s use of her own brand of penny-pinching at the grocery store cost her more than dollars at the cash register Monday afternoon. According to Ardmore Police Department reports, the woman was arrested and booked into the Carter County Detention Center on a pending charge of obtaining merchandise by fraud after her illegal budget-conscious tactics were discovered at a store located in the 200 block of North Commerce Street. What was her method? “She was caught switching bar codes from cheaper items to items in her shopping cart,” an APD spokesperson said.   ...

After nearly two years of construction at Spring Valley High, Richland 2 officials are in the home stretch. Gone is the pod-style design that has defined the school for decades. In its place is a new three-story high school campus with a centralized arts wing for Spring Valley’s Arts Academy, additional parking for students and staff, and an extensive athletics compound boasting softball, baseball, tennis soccer and football fields. In addition to the major renovations at Spring Valley, the district is opening its 15th elementary school when the new year kicks off Aug. 21. Bridge Creek Elementary will serve parts of The Summit and other areas. While students and faculty moved into Spring Valley’s new academic building in December, the new media Center, landscaping and some additional parking lots remain to be completed. Jack Carter, district operations director, said construction staffers faced unique challenges while renovating the campus. ...
