It's that time of the month -- new issues of EGM are in the hands of your friendly neighborhood postman and should be reaching your home, place of business, or dentist office any time now. And with it comes a new batch of delicious rumors, delivered fresh from the Quartermann kitchen to your eyeballs. First up, it looks like Capcom may not be done revisiting classic franchises and characters from its massive catalog due in large part to the success of Bionic Commando: Rearmed and high praise for the retro resurrection of Mega Man . The Qmann says that Capcom is eying none other than futuristic ninja Strider Hiryu as a potential candidate for revival in a new Devil May Cry -style action game. Also we've heard him talk about them in the past -- specifically how they make him physically ill -- but is Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima working on a first-person shooter? Word on the street is that Kojima has been on tour, visiting various first-person shooter development houses -- Infinity Ward and Guerrilla Games just to name a few. Of course, Kojima's also been known to meet with developers whose games he likes, so we'll have to wait and see what turns up. ...

Nintendo Everything reports Capcom's Christian Svensson, VP of Business Development, says earlier reports of Mega Man 9 doing 140,000 US downloads in one week for the Wii are incorrect. "Any numbers you've seen or quoted are not correct," Svensson said. "That said, I think we're cautiously optimistic about MM9's performance." For the record, VGChartz seems to be the source of the 140,000 figure , which it says would make Mega Man 9 No. 3 for lifetime sales and revenue on WiiWare. Sounds like good enough news to me, considering it doesn't include any PS3 or 360 sales, but it ain't true, says Capcom. When it was still supposed to be shipping in 2008, Capcom forecast that Resident Evil 5 would ship 2.3 million copies in the year. Now that it's been pushed back to 2009, though, things are looking up! Producer Jun Takeichi has said that while he hopes the game sells 2 million at the "low end of the scale", he's really hoping the game does closer to 3 million, because "users in Europe and America will be particularly pleased with the game's content". Jun, users everywhere are pleased by zombie dirt bikes . Developer Interview [Capcom] ...

In an effort to achieve greater realism, Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi says his team met with clothing manufacturers to ensure authentic in-game apparel. As Takeuchi puts it, players will be able to see individual clothing fibers so that characters will breath in a more life-like fashion, presumably so the game will freak you out even more when a Zombie dog jumps through a window. ...

Hello friends, we've made it to another Friday. Hooray for our side! I'm broke as all hell and trying to spend as little as I can between now and the new year. I know, I've got a couple of birthdays, Halloween and Christmas to get through. It's gonna be a dry fall and early winter. Chances are that an Xbox 360 or PS3 are out of the equation. No worries though because the expenses are in fixing up the car and around the house. It's better to think of the long term solutions. Besides there still isn't a game I'm jonesin' for, except that Warhammer 40k brawler and console release of SF IV. Speaking of which, it was announced yesterday but I'm going to remind you that Gouken is in the new Street Fighter.   He's not an April Fools joke anymore but an actual computer-controlled character with his own special moves. His power level and balance has yet to be determined.     Let's hope that Capcom does the right thing and makes him a very powerful, top-tier character, for the console release of the game. Most SF players will tell you that Gouki has never been a top-tier character. In canon and with "Shin" versions of the boss he is very powerful. However as a selectable character he is underpowered. Capcom did this for the sake of balancing the cast, if Gouki was as powerful as he is supposed to be then all the tournament players would be using him exclusively. I wouldn't mind seeing an all-powerful Gouki in the game, provided that his brother ...

Capcom is using the Web more extensively in order to reach potential Resident Evil 5 purchasers, according to the game's producer Jun Takeuchi. "In addition to all the usual specialty magazines, we're also putting more effort into our Web promotions," Takeuchi said in a Capcom developer interview with internal PR (and which is incidentally available on the Web). Takeuchi said he expects RE5 to sell 2 million copies worldwide "at the low end of the scale." read more ...

Filed under: News , Fan stuff Remember the Mega Man 9 press kit ? Of course you do -- a better question may be "Have you been able to drive the Mega Man 9 press kit out of your thoughts for even a single, restful second?" Well, if you're freaking out about this item, you should take your nervous energy and put it to good use on Capcom's Mega Man forum . The Capcom Unity staffers are picking worthy fans and handing them redemption codes for free press kits. The item is apparently hidden in the store somewhere, priced exorbitantly, but we haven't been able to find it. If you are in the mood to spend money on one of these, there's always eBay . Not as good as 2, about as good as 3, better than 4 or 5. The graphics are 8-bit Mega Man and on the Wii they look crisp even on a 40" HDTV - I stopped registering the 8-bitness after the first 5 minutes. The music is pleasant but so far I've yet to encounter a tune that compares to 2 or 3. The bosses are not as lame as the later 8-bit games that introduced luminaries such as Mop Man and Lint Man. This is a hard game and flirts with borderline cheap but never crosses the line. Every level has one or two hard parts with the rest being no big deal, and levels are very short once you can get through them without dying repeatedly. Being sent back to the start or midpoint isn't bad when it's a 30 second trek back and it cultivates a strong "I'll try just one more time" feeling. And you can always grind for items to make your life easier if you fail at Mega Man games. [ read more ] ...
