Variable epidemic histories of hepatitis C virus genotype 2 infection in West Africa and Cameroon. Infect Genet Evol. 2008 Jun 12; Authors: Pouillot R, Lachenal G, Pybus OG, Rousset D, Njouom R It has recently been suggested that HCV genotype 2 (HCV-2) was more recently introduced to Cameroon (Middle Africa) than West African countries. In order to explore the relationships among HCV-2 strains from Cameroon and West Africa, and to estimate the epidemic history of each lineage, a recently-developed Bayesian evolutionary analysis approach was used. The estimated date of the most recent common ancestor (MRCA) of the Cameroon HCV-2 strains, 1630 (95% highest posterior density interval: 1470-1760) was slightly more recent than that of West Africa, 1540 (95% highest posterior density interval: 1380-1680). Estimates of epidemic history indicate significant differences between the two strains. HCV-2 appears to have spread relatively slowly within the West African population from 1630 to 1900, whilst the Cameroon lineages exhibit rapid, exponential spread from 1920 to 1960. This comparative genetic analysis indicates that Cameroon HCV-2 strains are derived from West African strains and that HCV-2 has undergone radically different epidemiological histories in the two regions. Wood transformation simply put, is the physical change of the state of the wood harvested from the forest into other forms. These include tables, chairs, windows, doors in all shapes and more. In the municipality of Buea, capital of the Southwest Province, Cameroon, the business of wood transformation could be seen in the major neighbourhoods, but very few people handle it with professionalism. One of these is Stephen Ngufor Ndifornda. He has been in the wood transformation activity for more than three decades. He has a wood transformation plant of his own. A general appraisal indicates that the basic equipments are available. For thirty-one years, Ngufor has, largely, seen better days in his trade. He went into apprenticeship in 1971, after he completed his primary education. He will complete apprenticeship in 1975. 1976, Ngufor began his career in wood transformation and he has been in there, braving the odds and why not, enjoying the fallouts too. He told this reporter that there are various types of woods. He will give the names in local parlance; Iroko, Mahogany, Dossier, Bété and Bobinga. Bobinga is said to be the strongest and most expensive in the world of woods. “It is beautiful, very hard in nature”, Ngufor described. However, Ngufor will corroborate the talk that some trees in the forest have a psychical element. Some trees are said to have “powers”. “You may see a particular tree now, and you will come later you would ... Source: www.oilvoice.com --- 3 days ago

According to Joseph Chuyum, who has been selling cars and has been in the sector for 18 years, the ministerial decision is a culmination of a series of reports the traffic gendarmes and police respectively have been furnishing the transport ministry concerning the frequency of accidents recorded on the trunk A-roads in Cameroon. “It's very dangerous when you negotiate bends on the Cameroonian roads with the right-hand drive since we've the left-hand drive system in Cameroon. The rates of accidents have increased in Cameroon since the right-hand drive cars began in fluxing the Cameroonian markets and on the roads. At first sight, it looks frightful since people are not conversant with the system,” he mentioned. As Cameroonians took interest in other international markets for business ventures, the direction to the east saw a regular stopover in Japan. Immediate purpose? Buying of cars!! And the Japanese drive in the right-hand system. Another stopover for Cameroonians, for those interested in the car business is England. This is another country with the right-hand drive mode. However, Chuyum told this reporter that the biggest car market in Europe is in Belgium, where you will find all types of cars. With the ban on the right-hand drive imposed in Cameroon, a newfound business avenue has come to limelight. This is the process of moving the steering wheel from the right-hand side of the dash board to the left. “The financial cost of ... Source: www.northernminer.com --- 1 day ago

According to Pierre D, the district doctor, 12 percent of the 121,000 Obala inhabitants are HIV-positive. The town is, which is also a crossroad linking eastern and central provinces, which is a strategic position for such campaigns. Pierre says that 12 percent is much higher than the national one which is 5,5 percent. He adds that the schooling generation is the most affected. At the end of the 2007-8 school year, his hospital recorded more than 300 pregnancies among young girls registered in different secondary school of the town. He thinks that the infection is favoured by the increase of motorcycle drivers who take advantage of vulnerable girls. François Nkeumi, the coordinator of DELICE who is also a teacher in Obala secondary school, says that from time to time, they receive support from agency of United nations organisation such as Unicef and UNAIDS, to carry out their campaigns. Last year, Unicef offered them twenty bicycles and one motorcycle which help walk through the town to educate the population notably the young people. He thinks that it's urgent to do more in Obala to reverse the situation. ... Find more search results for Cameroon on RSSMicro.com |
