A woman mauled by a bear in a rural area of Southern California was recovering Wednesday as game wardens sought to trap and kill the animal. Allena Hansen, 56, was resting comfortably after undergoing extensive surgery to repair injuries suffered in Tuesday's attack, said Roxanne Moster, a spokeswoman for the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Despite suffering severe lacerations to her face and head, the woman managed not only to escape but to drive herself to a nearby fire station, Kern County fire spokesman Sean Collins said. "For her to be attacked in that manner and drive to a fire station, she must have been running on pure adrenaline," Collins said. Hansen's neighbor August Dunning said in a telephone interview that his friend underwent 10 hours of surgery Tuesday and was "lucid, active and probably pretty sore." ...

very funky california hippy van starts and runs good, 1600, single port, still 6 volt, everything works including wipers. has 6 volt front driving lights and rear backup light, and a 6 to 12 volt converter for the fairly new brazilian 28mm pict carb. The carb and a dual advance distributor made this cranky old bus into an easy starting, better throttle response, decent mileage - just more fun to drive. New left front link pins and a (really perfect) used king pin, plus new center link bushings, 4 kyb shocks and a really nice steering box make this van ride well, and easy to steer and eliminated the front tire wear problems. It also turns really tightly. Lots of other stuff on this van: Bosch 6 volt starter, nice Napa 6 volt battery, high perf mounts and shifter coupler, brakes gone through with new cables cyls and hoses, recent wiper shafts... etc etc this van is a runner! Right now the trans has a problem - I think it is likely a chipped tooth on the ring gear, which isn't real uncommon on those older trans. So, the van can be driven around some, but the tic tic tic on decel is noticeable. I am asking $5000 for the van WITH a rebuilt trans, including axles and reduction boxes, which I will acquire from a local rebuilder (about $1000 my cost, including shipping and gear oil) which I will install (this is a fairly easy job) so the van is driveable! (I drove it all over California, from Humboldt to Nevada City, to Santa Cruz and down thr ...
