Filed under: Cellphones Brace yourself, US-based Touch Dual lovers -- the handset that your Japanese / European friends have been taunting you with for months is finally making the trip stateside. Slated to launch "later this quarter" (at Best Buy initially, of all places), the US Touch Dual will come rocking Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional , TouchFLO, Office Mobile, Live HTC Home, a 2-megapixel camera, quad-band GSM support and HSDPA connectivity. Sadly, HTC didn't give us the pleasure of knowing a price, but we'll be keeping an ear to the ground for more exact details surrounding the release. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments ... This week (April 1-3) was the CTIA Wireless 2008 show in Las Vegas. All week TMCnet has been reporting on news from the show, which is put on (as the name suggests) by CTIA, an organization whose acronym formerly stood for “Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Assocation,” but now simply goes by CTIA — The Wireless Association. The show’s Web site has a full roster of news highlights from this week, but here are a few that caught my eye from TMCnet’s coverage . At the CTIA trade show today, Microsoft announced a new version of Internet Explorer Mobile for Windows Mobile devices - yes, newer than the one included with Windows Mobile 6.1 (which was itself just released today.) According to Microsoft, "updated IE Mobile" will support Adobe's Flash, Microsoft's Silverlight and H.264 streaming, making it possible for Windows Mobile device users to surf rich media Web sites. The new version will also make it easier to "view full screen Web pages," according to Microsoft's press release. Microsoft spokesman Mark Mohammadpour said the update will be available the third quarter of this year, but that Microsoft and its carrier and manufacturer partners were still working out how to deliver it. So we don't know yet whether existing WM devices will be able to download the new browser, or whether you'll have to buy a new device. With the Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade, IE Mobile got the ability to zoom in and out of pages for easier navigation, and it's a bit faster than it used to be. Fortunately, Windows Mobile device owners have alternatives - most notably the excellent Opera Mobile , but also Skyfire , which uses some server-side magic to appear to support Flash. We'll see if a complete overhaul can put IE Mobile back in the front ranks ...
