Posted at Engadget HD HDNet, HDNet Movies coming to COMCAST Today, September 04, 2008, 9:20:00 PM | Richard Lawler Filed under: HDNet, Cable, New content Add two stations to Project Infinity, COMCAST has -- after several years of battling -- signed up Mark Cuban's HDNet and HDNet Movies, plus a free video on-demand package. Specifics on when the channels should go live in your area weren't noted, only that the cable company plans to increase its carriage of the two networks over the next year. Hopefully COMCAST subscribers will get a (non-bandwidth starved) peek at Dan Rather, HDNet Fights, early movie premieres and more before tru2way and switched digital video roll out, but we can't be sure. -- I ain't got time to bleed! ...

Today I called the local COMCAST office to check on the status of HD boxes with HDMI output (non DVR). I want to exchange my current box, an SA Explorer 3250 HD for one that has an HDMI output. After the customer service person told me that the expected shipment had not arrived, he went in this rant that HDMI is not what I want "despite what the children at Circuit City tell you". He told me that based on his knowledge and experience component cables offer better performance. He said why try to put all of that data and "current" through a "little wire" (HDMI) when you can send it through 3 bigger wires (component). He said the reason they don't support HDMI is because they don't want service calls due to bad picture quality from HDMI. He also said that the decision is mine and I can use which ever one I like when they arrive. Why would they try to steer people away from HDMI. COMCAST's own site links to this site, which extols the benefits of HDMI: http://www.hdmi.org/learningcenter/faq.aspx , to learn more about HDMI. Am I missing something here or do they just not want to supply HDMI boxes??? -- Get in, Sit down, Shut up, & Hold on! ...

Hello All, Since our most recent storm here in florida ( TS-Faye ), I'm seriously thinking about switching my bundled services over to AT&T. We only lost our power for about 5 minutes, but we lost our COMCAST connection for over 5 days. By losing our incoming cable connection, we lost everything associated with it..phone-tv-internet . I remember when we used to use bellsouth/at&t for our phone service, normally even in bad weather, we always had phone service. Being without a phone could be very serious. I visited our local AT&T store a short time ago, and was very interested in the bundled services I could receive from them, especially by now being a COMCAST customer...they really like to grab customers away from COMCAST. Anyone have any comments about this ? Thanks, David :) ...

First of all my friend can not afford to loose the money there trying to say she did not pay. She is a single mother with two kids. She used the automated billing option and it kept telling her declined... she called her bank and what do you know they took the 70 dollars out.. She calls COMCAST they said they did not.. I will put this in Heathers own words.. From her blog COMCAST can suck it! okay so i sit down at my kitchen table and do all the math to see how much i am paying on three of my bills today so that i can cover all of them from my checking account. i call the electric company pay that and then phone and pay that too. i then call COMCAST and do the automated payment system because they charge you an extra four dollars to speak to an actual person! well i put in that i wanted 70 and they said it wasnt approved...so i tried it one more time. i finally talked to an actual person who said they were going to wave the extra charge for speaking to an actual person because i tried the automated system. and guess what the guy told me not approved! so i am like what the fuck and i call my bank. sure enough she gave me an authorization number for the first 70 dollar transaction that i made and said the system shows that it went through. she told me not to let COMCAST con me and to not do any more payments. i call COMCAST back and the guy is being rude telling me that if i had actually made a payment it would be in the system. i told hi ...

Sam Gustin submits: Federal Communications Chairman Kevin Martin has responded to COMCAST's lawsuit challenging the regulator's power to enforce the government internet rules the cable giant was found to have violated. In a statement, Martin said he was disappointed in COMCAST's (CMCSA) lawsuit, but said he was pleased that the cable giant will abide by the ruling, even as it challenges the F.C.C.'s authority to enforce the principle of network neutrality -- which requires that all Web traffic be treated equally. Responds to ISP's legal challenge of the FCC's decision ordering it stop throttling BitTorrent. FCC Chairman Kevin Martin has released a statement in response to the recent news that COMCAST has formally filed an appeal with the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit asking it to reverse a recent FCC ruling that ordered an end to "interference with connections of P2P applications." "Given COMCAST's past failure to disclose its network management practices to its customers, it is important COMCAST respond to the many still-unanswered questions about its new management techniques," he said. "In particular, what exactly does it mean by a 'protocol agnostic' management technique?" In particular , Martin wants answerers as to how COMCAST intends to manage network bandwidth congestion in the future. "Will there be bandwidth limits and, if so, what will they be?" Martin asked. ...

As expected, COMCAST is appealing the Federal Communications Commission's August decision to sanction the cableco for throttling P2P traffic and violating net neutrality principles. The Philadelphia-based company is arguing that the FCC can't sanction it for violating a principle, only a rule, and since no FCC rule exists on net neutrality, the issue is moot. The FCC ordered COMCAST to stop blocking the traffic by year's end and to provide it with more details of its network management practices. It didn't levy a fine against the company. COMCAST has said it will abide by the FCC ruling and also is in the process of revealing how it manages traffic. Congressional Democrats, meanwhile, have initiated efforts to pass net-neutrality legislation. "We filed this appeal in order to protect our legal rights and to challenge the basis on which the [FCC] found that COMCAST violated federal policy in the absence of pre-existing legally enforceable standards or rules," COMCAST Executive Vice President David L. Cohen said in a written statement. FCC Chairman Kevin Martin said he was disappointed by COMCAST's decision.
