The Bush administration opposes legislation the House sent him on Sunday creating a copyright czar to police the nation's intellectual property rights. The White House has written lawmakers that the position, which is similar to the nation's drug czar, "constitutes a legislative intrusion into the internal structure and composition of the president's administration." A possible Veto looms. ...

After a warning from the Justice Dept. that a pro-Hollywood bill is unconstitutional, senators dropped a controversial provision to turn the Justice Dept. into a publicly funded enforcement arm for the RIAA and MPAA. But the bill still orders the White House to create a position to coordinate IP prosecutions across agencies. That, the White House says, is a violation of church and state. Now that Congress has passed the bill, will the President Veto? We can only hope. ...

Yesterday on CNN, host John King asked White House Press Secretary Dana Perino about “charges of sexism in the media.” “Tell me what it is like. And do you agree with those charges?” King asked. Concerned about separation of powers and "legislative intrusion into the internal structure and composition of the President's Administration." Over the weekend Congress passed the controversial Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act, or PRO-IP Act, which was formally known as the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights Act. If you recall, the legislation had originally contained a provision allowing the Dept of Justice to sue file-sharers in civil as well as criminal court. It was a job the DoJ did not want. "We strongly oppose Title I of the bill, which not only authorizes the Attorney General to pursue civil remedies for copyright infringement, but to secure 'restitution' damages and remit them to the private owners of infringed copyrights,"wrote the DoJ to the Senate Judiciary Committee. ...

Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, told CNN Wednesday he agrees with President Bush's Veto of legislation expanding a children's health insurance program, saying the bill provided a "phony smoke and mirrors way of paying for it." Sen. John McCain says the president was right to Veto the expansion of a children's health insurance program. "Right call by the president," the Republican White House hopeful told CNN's John King. "We've laid a debt on these same children ... that we're saying we're going to give health insurance to." Note: Well, McSame I have only one response. Since this is a State healthcare insurance and not a federal one, then let the States worry about their own funding. Not the Feds. I certainly wouldn't mind paying taxes for something of real benefit to our children.   ...

Over the weekend, under the deceptive banner of "intellectual property", the RIAA Enforcement Bill passed with several unacceptable provisions. We have one more chance to stop this bill from becoming law. Bush has yet to sign it. Given the fact that the DoJ publicly objected to it earlier, Bush may Veto it. digg_url = 'http://digg.com/tech_news/Last_Chance_Tell_Bush_to_veto_the_RIAA_MPAA_Enforcement_Bil'; Over the weekend, Congress in a shameful act of service to the campaign contributions of the entertainment industry passed "PRO-IP" legislation that requires our government to work directly on the industry's behalf against the public interest. Under the deceptive banner of "intellectual property" , the bill as passed has several unacceptable provisions . Besides over $23 million in congressional campaign contributions , the industry used scare tactics to get it passed, trying to draw a connection between copyright infringement and...terrorism. The bill expresses the "Sense of Congress" as agreeing that "terrorists and organized crime utilize piracy, counterfeiting, and infringement to fund some of their activities;" and that stopping copyright infringement should be among the highest priorities of government. This attitude sets us up for a future world of Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) and large-scale seizure of computer equipment the industry accuses of being involved in filesharing. We have one more chance to stop this bill from becoming law. Bush has yet to sign it. Given the fact that his Department of Justice publicly objected to it earlier, Bush may Veto it. But we can't count on that -- your calls and e-mails to the White House could make the difference. Take Action Help get the word out so more people know that now is a c ...

Once again President Bush has shown his contempt for working class Americans by stating he would Veto a stimulus package proposal introduced by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to help struggling Americans. That is interesting being that the President rushed to assist big business. This was no surprise, but here is the skinny on how we are being robbed by our own government. Bear Stearns---$30 billion Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae---$200 billion AIG----$122 billion Wall Street-----------------$800 billion The working and middle income Americans; well, we get the bill. ...
