A Pittsburgh Tribune-Review article states that the presidential papers accumulated over the eight years of the George W. Bush administration can "fit comfortably in a single cardboard box" and that Library planned for them at SMU might end up smaller as a result. Also, the new curator for Dick Cheney's Library, "Scooter" Libby (yes, that one), says the address for his completely underground facility will not be made available to the general public. Funding for the Library comes 100% from Halliburton. ... Source: mbd.scout.com --- 18 days ago

Random listings from random places: L.A. Land's sibling blog, Countdown to Crawford, reports that the Midland, Texas home once owned by George W. and Laura Bush is for sale, listed for $239,000. Three bedrooms, two baths, 2,406 square feet. Here's the listing on Realtor.com. From Countdown to Crawford: An enterprising Realtor in Midland, Texas, has come up with a new way to advertise a listing in West Texas. She's letting prospective customers know that the property for sale was the first home of Laura and George Bush, where the couple started their married life together. Listed for $239,900, the home at 1405 W. Golf Course Road has 2,406 square feet and was built in 1976, one year before the Bushes moved in. With light airy spaces and a mostly concrete back patio ("low maintenance yard" is how Realtor Ruth Young puts it), the home is where the couple had their daughters (1981) and the future president ran for Congress, and lost, in 1978 (see photo above). It still boasts Laura Bush's original drapes, and offers buyers a chance to cook on Laura Bush's original cooktop stove.--Peter Viles Photo: George Bush Presidential Library; Credit: Associated Press ... Today I worked early and took my dogs to the park to run around when I got home. It was fun cramming all three of my big guys into the back of my car-they were awful about being loaded up and misbehaved on the way, but after running around to their hearts' content they settled down nicely. It's a great feeling when all three of your crazy boy dogs come running up to you in a field, sit nicely on command, and wait for you to put their collars on like good boys. They're the best. I tried to watch some of the RNC tonight with my mom, but it physically pains me to listen to Laura and George Bush speak. I can't pay attention. Instead I read a scathing indictment of the reaction of the press and celebrities to Tim Russert's death-the author makes some excellent points about him, and many other journalists, being members of the same "club" as the politicians they're supposed to be challenging. It was an interesting read, among many others, in last month's Harper's. There's also a creepy exchange between a man posing as a deposed Kyrgyzstani president and an employee of a powerful lobbyist group: evidently you can buy the Bush administration's endorsement for a measly $200,000 donation to the presidential Library. Who'da thunk it? I like the juicy bits Harper's publishes without commentary, like that one. Tomorrow I'm getting out of here. I'm staying with my ex-roommate at his place right by the Empire State Building tomorrow night...hopefully ... Source: discuss.joelonsoftware.com --- 2 days ago
