Pirates of the Burning Sea: Downtime announced for patch 1.4 update

Source: news.filefront.com --- 1 day ago
Pirates of the Burning Sea will be putting eleven new ships out to Sea when build 1.6 goes live. The Archelon , Cyclone (Test Ship) , Dauntless , Mastercraft Couronne , Mastercraft van Hoorn , Monarch , and Treason have previously been announced. Flying Lab has revealed the final four in the new line up; the ‘Cruizer’ Heavy Snow, ‘El Dragon’ Mastercraft Barque, ‘Minerva’ Mastercraft Frigate and the ‘Trinidad’ Frigate in the 1.6 Ship Changes devlog. Players will notice “power creep” in ship stats for 1.6. Flying Lab is re-balancing the power of regular ships versus the top of the line vessels to make combat more interesting. While these ships do appear more powerful in general than what youre used to for level 50 ships, they generally arent pushing the absolute achievable strength higher. This means many level 50 ships are getting boosts, while the highest end ships are essentially unchanged. Were doing it this way for a few reasons: 1)I didnt want to nerf the high-end ships. 2)The existence of First Rate SOLs introduces a balance constant due to the number of guns. In our combat system, the options we have for reducing these ships all result in less enjoyable gameplay. 3)It opened up opportunities for places where we could create new ships. You’ll find stats for the other three new ships as well as a change log for existing craft and ammo on Pirates of the Burning Sea ---Related Articles at Gaming Today:New Pirates of the Burning Sea ...

Along with the graphical overhaul coming to the towns of Pirates of the Burning Sea along with the 1.5 patch, Flying Lab Software is planning a significant marketing push that will finally make free trials of the game available to prospective pirates. "What we???re focusing on now is making the game easy to get into and to expose it to a wide audience," wrote Flying Lab CEO Russell Williams in a recent community address. "To that end, we???re starting free trials in July (towards the middle or latter part) which will let players try out the game for 14 days and see if it???s for them."I think this is perfect timing on their part. The storm of excitement over Age of Conan has begun to die down, World of Warcraft's next expansion is still months away, and many MMO gamers are looking for something new. Who wants to spend $50 on an unproven commodity? No one. So by offering a free trial you give players who maybe were intrigued with the idea of being a pirate a chance to try it out before investing a significant amount of cash. I don't think it will instantly catapult Pirates of the Burning Sea to the top of the MMO population chart, but at least a lot of people will get a chance to see what the game is all about. Over at the official Pirates of the Burning Sea site, Taelorn of the Flying Lab Software dev team sat down with a new log discussing the MMORPG's patch 1.6. This patch aims to be a big change from the game's previous updates, given that instead of dealing with skill issues , it will instead be delving into high-end ship issues. After all, a pirate without a boat is like a ninja without black pajamas. Taelorn posted that the most noticeable addition for PotBS patch 1.6 is the addition of 11 new ships: The Archelon, Cyclone (Test Ship), Dauntless, Mastercraft Couronne, Mastercraft van Hoorn, Monarch, Treason, 'Cruizer' Heavy Snow, 'El Dragon' Mastercraft Marque, 'Minerva' Mastercraft Frigate, and 'Trinidad' Frigate. Aside from these new ships, Taelorn mentioned that patch 1.6 will be implementing changes that should narrow the considerable power gap between regular level 50 ships and those listed above. The changes are specifically meant for the regular ships, with the devs intentionally leaving PotBS ' high-end ships untouched. To that end, Taelorn also posted a list of the planned changes 1.6 will be implementing for game mechanics. We've listed the changes here, though those interested in reading Taelorn's full dev log can visit it via the source link below. PotBS ' patch 1.6 is currently going through its paces in the testbed server, so you may want to keep on the lookout for any changes. Patch 16. changes Abaddon s Will: Armor ...

How do the Pirates of the Burning Sea devs feel about ganking? Rusty asked me what we think about ganking. Ganking has a long and difficult history within our design and development process, so it’s a hard question to answer with a simple ‘we hate it’ or ‘we love it.’ The term I’ve preferred to use is ‘ambush gameplay’, which sounds nicer and has different implications for the user experience. In the earliest days of the Pirates design, one of the scenarios we envisioned and tried to support was the lone pirate or group of pirates catching an unwary merchant by surprise, defeating him, and looting him before reinforcements could arrive. That’s ambush gameplay—rewarding for the pirates, disheartening for the lone merchant. In some theoretical world before we actually started building the game, it made sense. You’d sail out from port, hoping to avoid danger, but there would be a sail on the horizon. Was it a friend or an enemy? Before anyone could come to save you, the sail would turn out to belong to a pirate, and you’d be fighting for your life. Read on for more! View in full... ...

Making videos from screen captured content can seem daunting at first. But, with a little practice you can be throwing together great videos of your moments in game. It doesn’t take expensive editing programs or courses in video editing. There are easy to use tools that are free, come with your computers media package or are inexpensive should you wish to purchase. This guide will help you with how to utilize basic software and some tips in planning your game video. First things first… you need an idea! It can be tempting to just take a bunch of screen captured video and edit together a video. But a little planning can go a long ways and save you hours of time in the end. Form an idea of what you want to create. Write it down and try and create a storyboard. Once you get your video made, we'd love to see it! Head over to our PotBS forums and post a link! ...
