Tuesday - As she took center stage at the Denver Democratic convention, there was a huge amount of pressure on Hillary Clinton. She followed not only the keynote address of former Virginia Governor Mark Warner, but also the unexpectedly dynamic oration of Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer. And many Dems felt Senator Clinton's presentation would determine whether or not Democrats united behind presidential nominee Barack Obama. Clinton proved equal to the task, responding with the best speech of her career. Of the several objectives of the convention, none was more important than Democratic Party unity. There's been a growing concern - nurtured by the mainstream media - that many Hillary supporters would vote for John McCain. Recent polls have provided strikingly different assessments of what Clinton advocates intend to do. On the one hand, Delegates seem to have made up their minds. A recent New York Times poll indicated that more than 90 percent Of Hillary delegates plan to support Barack Obama - only 5 percent said they wouldn't. On the other hand, a recent USA Today poll indicated that 30 percent of Clinton supporters will either vote for McCain or no one at all. The most recent Pew Research Poll had a comparable finding: 18 percent of Hillary voters indicated they would support McCain and 10 percent said they either wouldn't vote or hadn't decided. (Yet, despite this alarming trend, the most recent Emily's List poll gave Obama ...

Before he became the Republican presidential nominee, John McCain suffered through five and a half years as a POW and eight years of the Bush Administration. Sadly, these horrific experiences eroded his mental faculties and when the Arizona Senator finally took the stage at the St. Paul Republican Convention he flubbed his big chance. McCain's speech was like biting into a chocolate candy and inside finding a turd. He promised change but delivered the standard GOP talking points. Recently, there's been a lot of comment about McCain's mental health , the fact that he no longer thinks quickly or clearly. CNN reporter Jack McCafferty observed: "[McCain] no longer allows reporters unfettered access to him aboard the "Straight Talk Express" for a reason. He simply makes too many mistakes. Unless he's reciting talking points or reading from notes or a TelePrompTer, John McCain is lost." Halfway through Thursday night's speech, McCain wandered off track. If you only listened to the beginning and ending of McCain's acceptance speech , you might have been convinced that McCain the "maverick" was back. He began with the promise, "change is coming" and ending by asking his audience to "Fight for our children's future." In his most memorable phrase, the Arizona Senator called on the GOP to change: "I fight to restore the pride and principles of our party. We were elected to change Washington, and we let Washington change us. We lost the trust ...

As the 2008 presidential campaign enters its final two months, there are several "elephants in the room," big issues being ignored. One is race; the fact some Americans won't vote for Barack Obama because of his skin color. Another is John McCain's health; the reality he's likely to become senile or die if elected President. The third is the truth that McCain and his running mate, Sarah Palin, represent the worst kind of family values. Obama's Race: At the Denver Democratic Convention, Southern delegates were candid about the impact of race on the November presidential election. Florida Dems felt it would be hard for Obama to carry their state because of the number of voters who say they "will never vote for a black man." Delegates from Georgia and North Carolina made the same observations. But racial prejudice isn't restricted to the South. Dems from swing states, such as Ohio and Pennsylvania, said Obama will have a hard time with certain demographics because of his skin color. Here in Northern California there are voters who will not support Obama because they've heard he's a Muslim or they don't like Michelle Obama - opinions that serve as proxies for "I won't vote for him because he's black" because bias isn't politically correct. A recent Washington Post-ABC News poll found that thirty percent of voters admitted to some feelings of racial prejudice. Yet, "nearly nine in 10 whites said they would be comfortable with a black pr ...
