TALLADEGA, Alabama -- At restrictor-plate tracks such as Daytona and Talladega, drivers are told they are not allowed to drive below the yellow line that separates the apron of the track from the racing groove in an effort to improve their position. Consider it an out-of-bounds line, similar to a football field. ... Source: www.nytimes.com --- 9 days ago

Congratulations to Bruce for going up on the wall this week. I'm a firm believer that Bruce is the greatest Buffalo Bill of all time. My argument is that when you compare our best players to the greatest of all time at their respective positions, Bruce is closest to the top. Let's look at the other Bills greats ... Jim Kelly: Mr Buffalo Bill and the face of the turnaround of the franchise. A hall of famer, but few could argue that there are not at least 10 or more ahead of him on the quarterback list. When you try to find the greatest QB of all time, Kelly's not in the discussion. Thurman Thomas: same comments as Kelly. Great player, great winner, but no where near the greatest back of all time OJ: This is the biggest challenger. It's hard to say who is ahead of OJ on the all time RB list. Whoever you put at the top isn't that much better than Juice and there aint that many people in between. I think Jim Brown is the best all time, but OJ is in the discussion. I also think there are simply a LOT of great running backs. As for Bruce, I honestly believe he is in the discussion for greatest defensive end of all time. If you disagree, that's fine, but I don't think you can put more than three or four guys ahead of him. I don't think anything energized that stadium more than a Bruce Smith sack and there were a lot of them. Personally, I still get fired up watching hilites of Bruce swoop in and gobble up QB's. A flurry of gunfire resulted in at least two shooting victims Friday. About 9:20 p.m., multiple calls for shots fired were reported from Woodlawn and Royal avenues and Winnebago and Bruce streets on the city’s near northwest side and even as far north as Gladstone Avenue. “A brown minivan pulled up in the 900 block of North Winnebago, and the sliding door opened. A subject got out with an automatic-type weapon. One of the rounds struck a subject in the right arm,” Sgt. Sam Pobjecky said. Witnesses said the victim fled between houses and was found at a residence in the 900 block of Woodlawn suffering from a nonlife-threatening wound. The victim was taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital by a private vehicle, Pobjecky said. The shooter is described as a black male in his late teens. He is believed to be armed with an assault rifle, from which as many as 12 rounds were fired. The minivan is described as a 1990s brown Ford Windstar or Dodge Caravan. Police are also looking for a smaller four-door white vehicle. The age and condition of the victim were not available. About 10:50 p.m., police learned of a 15-year-old who showed up at Rockford Memorial Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He reportedly was shot in the area of Gilbert and Kilburn avenues. Resident Steven C. Smith, 70, said he heard as many as nine gunshots before he ventured out onto his front porch after the first shooting. “We usually wait until the gunsho ... Properties Committee Chair Robert Hyde at a Herkimer Legislature meeting Wednesday declared the status of two properties in the town of Webb, which had been seized by the county through tax foreclosure, as “deadlocked.” Hyde made a motion for the Legislature to resolve the issue under the committee as a whole process, which is utilized when a committee previously exhausted its options. The resolution failed, receiving nine no votes from the following legislators: Jeffrey Stone, Leonard Hendrix, Raymond Smith, Vincent J. Bono, Bernard Peplinski, Patrick Russell, Frederick Shaw, Bruce Weakley, and John Piseck. Peplinski said the no votes didn’t constitute a position on the issue, but rather a belief against acting as a committee as a whole. Chairman Raymond Smith said the issue now returns to the Properties Committee. Hyde said at an Aug. 20 meeting his committee split four to four to defeat a vote to sell the property at auction, basically ending his line of action, “You as chairman...do not support your own committees.” Several of the eight legislators casting yes votes, including Hyde, made statements as to a potential negative impact on the future of Herkimer County’s “in rem” process. Hyde said in a phone interview the county loses footing in future court cases involving in rem, “It opens a can of worms that I don’t think the county can deal with.” In rem is the legal procedure used by the county to foreclose on properties whi ... Here's tonight's run-down of the Congressional races: The bailout and the economic crisis continue to dominate the campaigns -- which is never good news for the GOP -- while the Republicans are fending off the attacks by charging that the Dems don't have any solutions, either. Al Franken Opposes Bailout Bill Al Franken has put out a press release strongly opposing the bailout bill, which incumbent GOP Sen. Norm Coleman voted for: "Last night the United States Senate voted to take $700 billion from taxpayers who did nothing wrong and offer it as a sacrifice at the altar of financial mismanagement." Smith And Merkley Joust Over The Bailout Senate candidate Jeff Merkley (D-OR) is criticizing the bailout package, as well: "I have dedicated much of my life to advocating for consumers and I believe it is just wrong to spend $700 billion of taxpayer money to bailout the very Wall Street financiers who created this crisis." Incumbent Sen. Gordon Smith (R) has fired back at Merkley, saying Merkley has "shamefully placed his partisan ambitions ahead of the retirement, financial and economic security of the people he seeks to serve." Poll: McConnell Has Solid Lead In Kentucky A new Rasmussen poll of Kentucky has some good news for Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, giving him a 51%-42% lead over Democratic businessman Bruce Lunsford. Other recent polls have shown the race to be closer than that, and McConnell's campaign and outside g ... Find more results for Bruce Smith on RSSMicro.com |
