The MOD has just issued a couple of generous tributes to former Defence Secretary Des Browne from Sir Jock Stirrup, the Chief of the Defence Staff, and Lt. Anyone in doubt about this persistent heat affecting harvest need hear about Kosta Browne . In meeting with them this week for an upcoming feature, I was told how things were just about to get seriously crazy. Winemaker Michael Browne likens this year to 2004 in that we've reached some super hot , lingering temperatures just prior to picking. But the truly astounding thing he said was this: "(Typically) we start September 1 and finish toward the end of October with a little bump in the middle. This year we're doing over half our fruit before Sunday (September 7), 120 tons of fruit . Last year we did 185 tons total . Strap the rocket on and go because it's crazy." Good luck to everyone trying to get through it. Definitely sounds like 08 will be remembered as a crazy ride. ...
