The Brewers are hoping Jeff Suppan rebounds from a series of shaky starts today as they go for a sweep of the Pirates at Miller Park. Here are the lineups: Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks SS J.J. Hardy LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder RF Corey Hart CF Mike Cameron 3B Bill Hall C Jason Kendall RHP Jeff Suppan Pirates CF Nate McLouth SS Jack Wilson 2B Freddy Sanchez LF Jason Bay RF Xavier Nady 1B Adam LaRoche 3B Jose Bautista C Raul Chavez LHP Zach Duke FYI, nothing new on the C.C. Sabathia front but I get the impression the Brewers are expecting an answer today, one way or the other. If the deal isn't done today, it would be almost impossible to get two starts out of Sabathia before the all-star break, which is what the Brewers have in mind. ... A couple of club sources have told me the Brewers and Indians are still in heavy negotiations to try to conclude a deal for Cleveland left-hander C.C. Sabathia. Whether a deal gets done or not, it's a good sign for the Brewers that talks are still going on. That means they are still trying and the Indians are still listening. The Indians are off tomorrow and a reporter in Cleveland told me he has been giving indications that a press conference will be taking place. That makes sense because it's much easier to announce big deals on off days. If the Brewers are going to get this done, they want to do it in time for Sabathia to make his next start for them. If you're going to give up a lot for a pitcher, you want his services as much as possible. ... Source: blogs.jsonline.com --- 1 hour ago
I just was told by a reliable club source that the Brewers have a deal in place with Cleveland for left-hander C.C. Sabathia, contingent on the paperwork being done and medical records exchanged. But believe me, folks, that's a deal. All that other stuff is formality. All I know so far is that top prospect Matt LaPorta is in the deal. I was told two lower-level minor leaguers also are included. The Brewers refused to include another top prospect such as Alcides Escobar or Mat Gamel. Look for Sabathia to make his debut for the Brewers Tuesday night at Miller Park against Colorado. I'll post more details as I get them. ... Source: www.pittsburghlive.com --- 16 hours ago

The Brewers had a remarkable twelve extra-base hits today, and the Bucs piled three errors on top of all that, so maybe we're lucky Milwaukee only scored eleven runs. The first four innings were just exhausting; the Brewers hit a bunch of balls very hard, and even the ones they didn't seemed to land in places in which the nearest Pirate was a football field away. And so Zach Duke and Denny Bautista couldn't get anyone out, but what happened after that terrible twosome was put to bed was pretty interesting -- Sean Burnett, John Grabow and T.J. Beam combined for 4.2 innings, one run and nine strikeouts. The Pirates' pitching is obviously a complete mess, and we'll probably endure several more eleven-run games before the year's over, but the silver lining is that we're pretty likely to get a dependable and cheap reliever out of the deal. All these innings the Pirates have to hand out are a problem, but they're also an opportunity, and at least one reliever is likely to succeed, if only because there are so many getting opportunities. If I have I have to guess, I'll pick Beam, who pitched well today and has a very good minor league profile. By the way, it was announced today that Nate McLouth will be an NL All-Star . ...
