To add to the host of rude, crude, outrageous, and other unattractive behaviors that have been posted in recent months, I observed in about 45 minutes today, a series of traffic issues that give me reason to think that there arent as many polite people in the world anymore as there used to be. Its a certain level of disrespect that seems everywhere, and if not something that is directed at me, I observe it frequently being directed at those around me. Although far from being what I could describe as road rage - its a thin line theyre on, and its just as offensive and scary! Driving on Rt. 9 past the Dunkin Donut shop, a man was trying to scoot cross the road in front of Duttons farm stand. As he crossed the lane I was in (eastbound), I looked toward the small string of vehicles traveling westward, and I kid you not, it looked to me as though the first vehicle, a small truck, actually sped up so that the poor guy nearly didnt make it; and if that truck didnt slow up, it also didnt do something else - slow down. Entering the creamery bridge from rt. 9, a number of cars buzzed through, and one of them yelled something out his window at me with a snarl on his face outta the way, you Then, on the return trip back to the fort, a boy who looked about 12 or 13 was riding his bike on the shoulder and had just arrived at the beginning of a sidewalk, when a minivan zoomed within an inch of this kid, blasting her horn at hi ... Can anyone give reviews and/or recommendations for storage and self-storage facilities in or near Brattleboro? I'm looking for secure, dry, reliably climate-conrolled storage for household goods, including clothing, furniture and books. Of course, facilities in Brattleboro are most convenient, but I am willing to consider places up to 30 minutes away, if they are good and reasonably priced. Well, maybe 20 minutes. Thanks. ... Anyone who reads the Brattleboro Reformer already knows how biased they are, for their support of the left and disdain for the right. A week ago today I submitted the following letter to editor. Since it has not yet been published, I can only assume it ruffled their feathers and was counter to their agenda. This type of filtering is does an injustice to their readership and just makes me crazy. "Editor, I am not at all surprised with the Reformer's suppressed coverage of Speaker Nancy Pelosi's Do Nothing Congress with regard to the energy crisis most Americans are facing today. Instead of taking up the debate at this critical time, and to avoid an up or down vote on off-shore drilling, she pointedly shuts down congress and sends them all home for a five week vacation. Why? She doesn't want to upset certain special interest groups that traditionally support Democrats. Speaker Pelosi is playing politics while people in the northern climates are worried about how they are going to stay warm this winter and still eat. This utterly despicable. Meanwhile, the Republican caucus did not go home. They stayed in Washington and continue to this day to try to force the Democrats to come out from hiding and face this problem head on. What are the Democrats afraid of? A clear majority of American are in favor of increased offshore drilling in areas where the oil actually is. The Dems are caught between a rock and a hard place and they don't se ... Source: www.ibrattleboro.com --- 15 days ago

If you like sizzling percussionif you're into salsaif the sound of drums makes you smileor if you're interested in the traditions and music of the Caribbean, then you'll want to know about the Cuban percussion classes at The Loft, in Brattleboro. Cuban music is among the most rhythmically dynamic in the world, and has been hugely influential on popular music just about everywhere. These classes introduce you to basic techniques on conga, shekere, cajn, bongo, clave, guiro, and bells, and to some of Cuba's important rhythms and styles: tumbao, guaguanc, columbia, bembe, and more. We learn some of the beautiful songs from Cuba's African-based orisha tradition. And we learn rhythmic concepts that can improve your skills and creativity on any instrument. The instructor, Julian Gerstin, has performed and taught percussion for over 30 years in a wide variety of contexts: traditional music from Ghana, Martinique, Brazil, and Cuba; jazz (Eddie Gale, Joel Harrison); and many styles of popular music from Nigerian afrobeat (Kotoja, OJ Ekemode) to New Orleans r&b and cajun (Samirah Evans, Lil' Orphans). Julian lived and studied in Martinique for two years, performing with numerous folkloric musicians as well as the Carnival group Plastic System Band. Currently, Julian teaches music at the Vermont Jazz Center and Keene State College, leads the avant-garde Caribbean jazz ensemble Zabap, and co-leads the Caribbean-Balkan fusion group Salsa ... What is the level of crime in Brattleboro? Some describe Brattleboro as very safe, to the point where cars and homes are left unlocked. Others write of an undercurrent of crime and drugs. I have been warned of three "bad" neighborhoods, which I won't mention here. I have also read that I-91 is used for a lot of drug trafficking, and even human trafficking. But I also know that the town mobilized to clean up Harmony Parking Lot. And I know of the public outcry after that high school racial incident. So what is the reality of crime in Brattleboro? What should a newbie or wannabe Brattleboro person be prepared for? ... Source: www.ibrattleboro.com --- 15 days ago
