Filed under: Analysis / Opinion , Blizzard , Breakfast topics So the Wrath cinematic is out . It's gotten mixed reviews , with players like Mike Schramm generally unimpressed and disappointed there aren't any Gnomes , and other players, like myself, really liking it. In fact, I think it's the best World of Warcraft cinematic trailer to date. Whatever anyone thinks, though -- love it or hate it -- the cinematic has stirred thoughts about the World of Warcraft movie. Some people, impressed with the CGI, have even suggested that the movie should be done as a full-length animation a la Advent Children . It's almost unsettling not to have any news on the movie, despite Blizzard's modus operandi of keeping everything under wraps until "it's ready". In fact, the last news we heard was how Blizzard laughed off B-movie hack Uwe Boll . While that's certainly good news, it's been quite some time and we're quickly approaching Legendary Pictures' pegged release date of 2009. While I trust Legendary Pictures (behind Superman Returns, 300 and The Dark Knight), let's take matters into our own hands this morning and cast the movie. Even if it were done as an animation, you'd still need some actors for their voices. WoW player and Blizzard fan Brandon Routh expressed wanting to be in the movie, so why not? He'd make a good... uh... human, I guess. Varian Wrynn, maybe? We'll hear more for sure in the upcoming, sold out BlizzCon, but for now we can play c ...

Reports have been back and forth about just where Warner Bros. plans to take Superman after Bryan Singer's Superman Returns , a direct sequel to Richard Donner's Superman II , but the official word from WB's Jeff Robinov has confirmed suspicions that they're just going to ignore it, much like Marvel did with Ang Lee's Hulk movie, which was on par with Singer's film in terms of audience reception. "Superman [Returns] didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to. It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned. Had Superman worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009. But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all." So that's code for "no more Singer, no more Brandon Routh , no more 'Superman as deadbeat dad.' You just can't go home again. It also means no Justice League movie. It looks as though they will be following the successful Marvel model of spinning off all the DC comics characters into their own movies (good luck with Wonder Woman and her 'made from clay on an island of Greek Amazon women' origin), although there is some concern that The Dark Knight's success will make them think that 'making everybody dark and brooding' is the new way to be, which doesn't fit Superman at all. The Superman/Batman dynamic is interesting because they are polar opposites. If they're aping Marvel, they should look at Iron Man ...

Filed under: Drama , Trailers and Clips There's just something about Bret Easton Ellis' work on the big screen that I love -- the desperation mixed with a backdrop of insidiously upbeat '80s music. We've gotten Less Than Zero , American Psycho , The Rules of Attraction , and now The Informers . Word broke in May of 2007 that the interconnected collection of stories was going to be adapted, and now there's a trailer which you can see after the jump (beware of nudity and foul language) . It's the late Brad Renfro's last role, and one that should prove to be much eerier than Heath Ledger's stint as the Joker. It's got thumbsucking Lou Taylor Pucci as an entirely different sort of character, but Billy Bob Thornton steals just about every clip he's in -- and there's also the likes of Amber Heard, Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke, Kim Basinger, Rhys Ifans, and Brandon Routh. It looks like it could be just as good as its predecessors, but here's to hoping that the goodness is balanced with the box office this time around. Have you read the book? Do you think this trailer does it justice? And are you excited about the film? Continue reading An R-Rated Trailer for 'The Informers' Permalink | Email this | Comments ...

Warner Bros. is set to revive the ‘Superman’ franchise again, despite the disappointing 2006 movie that starred Brandon Routh as the caped crusader. Plans for two movies, ‘Batman vs Superman’ and ‘The Justice League,’ featuring the superhero have stalled with Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov casting those ideas aside to start afresh. “‘Superman’ didn’t quite [...] ...

COMICBOOK writer Mark Millar says he has put forward plans for a new Superman trilogy in the style of the Lord of the Rings epic. Millar, who wrote the comicbook on which the Wanted movie was based, says he is working with an unnamed American action-movie director on revitalising the Superman franchise following Bryan Singer's misjudged attempt in 2006. Scottish writer Millar and the rest of his creative team have pitched the idea to Warner Bros and hope to hear in the next few weeks if studio executives want to proceed with it. The studio has already said it wants to restart the Superman series, which means previous director Bryan Singer and actor Brandon Routh are out of the franchise. Singer will get a substantial multi-million dollar golden handshake as he signed a 'pay-or-play' deal for two movies - meaning that if he doesn't direct the next film, he has to be paid off to walk away from the franchise. Millar - who has also put forward story treatments for two sequels to the Wanted movie - spoke to G4 about his dream of being involved in big-screen versions of Superman. "I've had this plan for like 10 years for a big three-picture Superman thing, like a Lord of the Rings epic, starting over from scratch again with a seven-hour Superman story. One to be released each year." Millar said. The 38-year-old says there's nothing firm at present but if everything goes perfectly, they'll begin shooting next summer. Presumably, Millar me ...

NEVER mind the battle between Barack Obama and John McCain in the USA presidential campaign, the superhero world has its own politics and lobbying going on. Now that Warner Bros says the next Superman movie will be a reboot, it's left a power vacuum for a new actor and director to step in. The Superman Returns crew - director Bryan Singer and actor Brandon Routh - are out of the running if the next movie is a fresh start. Online, there has a growing campaign for Smallville actor Tom Welling to get his trunks on over his tights for the next Superman movie. He's played a teen version of Clark Kent for long enough - fans want him to finally become the fully-fledged hero. But Welling isn't the only candidate in this race. There's also strong support for British actor Henry Cavill , who has smouldered as Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk, in The Tudors and in a men's fragrance commercial for Dunhill. It's especially worth noting that Cavill (pictured in the centre of the montage at the top) auditioned for the role of Superman when Warner Bros was casting Superman Returns in 2004. Cavill, 25, also appeared in The Count of Monte Cristo, Hellraiser: Hellworld, Tristan and Isolde, and Stardust. He auditioned for the lead in Batman Begins, losing out to Christian Bale, and also became a contender for the role of the revamped James Bond in Casino Royale. He did a final screentest for Bond and was up against Daniel Craig and Sam Worthington for the ...

The Dark Knight was, appropriately, a fairly dark movie. The Dark Knight also made like a million dollars. ACTOR Tom Welling is emerging as a strong favourite to play Superman in the next movie. Welling, 31, plays the teenage Clark Kent in long-running TV show Smallville about the early years of the superhero. The show is about to enter its eighth - and possibly final - season. The late actor Christopher Reeve, who played what many see as the definitive Superman in the earlier film series, said Welling would be ideal to play the part on the big screen. Several new petitions are supporting this idea and one poll named Welling as the favourite Superman actor. For many, Welling embodies the character of Superman; for others, he is no more than a TV actor. But with the Welling campaign building momentum, many fans clearly believe he has the superpowers required for the role. One online petition has 1,482 names calling for Tom Welling to become the next big-screen Superman. But the big question is whether this would lead people to believe the film was a direct continuation of Smallville. With Warner Bros having announced that the next Superman movie will definitely be a reboot, debate is now intensifying over who will be the next star of the franchise - and the next director. Clearly, a reboot means that neither Bryan Singer, director of 2006's disappointing Superman Returns, nor Brandon Routh, who played the title role in that film, would not return to the franchise. Many online polls and superhero fans have missed this crucial point. The ...

For everyone waiting to see the Riddler show up in the sequel to The Dark Knight , you're probably going to have a long wait coming. But that doesn't mean that he won't get his day in the cinematic sun - He's just one of the supervillains being lined up to appear in Warner Bros' planned Green Arrow Prison Break movie. The movie's writer, Justin Marks, was more than happy to share the names of some of the bad guys that will be appearing in the movie that currently calls itself Green Arrow: Escape From Super Max , and they'll not only include the Riddler, but also Green Lantern villain The Icicle, Superman 's Lex Luthor and even an in-name-only cameo from the Joker, amongst many others. And the point of bringing all these villains together? To create a movie universe for DC's characters just like Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk have done for Marvel: What we wanted to do, and I think we'll continue to do as the studio continues to push the movie forward, is to be able to [put Queen] in the center of a much bigger universe... In the same way that Marvel is starting to do, when you're in the [filmed] DC Universe [where] this world and this world and this world — they all exist in an interrelated web. Does this mean that we may see a crossover between the Green Lantern movie and Super Max? That a sequel to The Dark Knight might include cameos from Brandon Routh's Man of Steel? Time - and the potential tanking of future Marvel movies l ...

Oh boy... Let's just say that if there's any suits left in WB Studios who still believe Singerman is a viable feature film franchise, they're probably crapping themselves at the moment. Lost in all the hoopla of last weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, was a small bit of news from the panel for the new Kevin Smith film featuring Seth Rogen called Zack and Miri Make a Porno . At said panel they showed some footage where Rogen and co-Star Elizabeth Bank's characters are at their high school reunion and they run into characters played by "Mac Boy" Justin Long and your favorite Singerman "star" makes a cameo. JoBlo details the carnage: "Rogen and Banks are at their 10 year high school reunion. Banks is off flirting with Brandon Routh (SUPERMAN!), and Rogen is off to the side, talking to Justin Long--a dude with slick black hair and wearing a nice suite. They talk, it comes out Long is a gay porn star and Routh is his gay lover. Banks was hoping to hook-up with Routh, but not anymore, because... well, he's gay. Routh is not as open to being gay as Long is, and before you know it they're having a gay lovers quarrel. They then kiss and make up after Long tells Routh "You better shut your mouth before I f*ck it." Ummm yeah.... Look I've got nothing against anyone who is gay. It's your life you do as you please. My point in pointing all of this out is, remember the good ole " Story that Just Wouldn't Go Away ?" When WB had to basically launch a PR cam ...

Just four days ago Anne Thompson was hinting that Bryan Singer might not be the man for the " Superman " franchise job after all and now comes word that he's probably not. Breaking news over at the Wall Street Journal ( via Cinematical ) who evidently talked to Warner Bros Group President Jeff Robinov who says the ' Supes ' franchise will be getting a reboot in the vein of Louis Leterrier 's " The Incredible Hulk " (and oh yeah, ' The Batman vs. Superman ' project is dead too) "Superman [Returns] didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to. It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned. Had Superman worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009. But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all." It's no news that Warner/D.C. is behind Marvel and they want to get in the game. The new plan apparently is four comic book movies in the next three years: A Batman film (no word about Nolan's return), a Superman film and two other unnamed D.C. characters/properties. That's all fine and dandy, but dont ' get too eager to get in the game or you'll rush in and fuck up these films like " Catwoman ." Anyone who rushes ahead into a Batman film without Nolan at this point is either desperate or an idiot. The longtail wins, just remember that. More pause for concern? WB is apparently head over heels with " The Dark Knight " and they ...

A user on BlueTights' The Planet Forum got a chance to meet Superman: Man of Stee l co-writer Michael Dougherty at the U.S. Capitol and asked him about the sequel: I asked him if he was a part of the sequel because everything I have seen says [Bryan] Singer and [Dan] Harris are writing the script and that he isn't mentioned. He confirmed that he is writing it with the two just like the last picture. I then expressed to him that I was hoping the delays of Superman: The Man of Steel weren't true. He said that they were on track and that the goal is still to have the movie out in the Summer of 2009. He seemed a little hesitant about it but did his best to try and reassure that it will get done by then. I asked if he could give any more info on the film. He responded, "There are TWO villains," and he smiled. Brandon Routh is returning in the title role for the Warner Bros. release. Source ...
