Sorry for getting to this two days after the rest of the world, but...you know... Anyhow, time to judge who's the better Mercedes actor, Bruce Boudreau or Eddie "T-Shirt Gun" Jordan. Kinda like deciding who's the tougher NFL opponent, the Rams or the Lions. Or which is the more popular network, MASN or MASN2. Bruce Boudreau, post-makeup. When Bruce Boudreau met with the folks from American Service Center & Mercedes-Benz of Alexandria about his upcoming TV spots, he announced that he had some thoughts about the scripts. "I'm thinking, 'Oh now, now he's writing the scripts?' " recalled Audrey Mulholland, the dealership's marketing director (and a longtime Caps season ticket holder). "Ok," the Caps coach suggested, "S550 with the top down and a gorgeous 22-year old blond in the passenger seat." That was pretty much the spirit during today's filming of the two spots, which will appear on Comcast SportsNet during Caps broadcasts starting next month. In the first spot, Boudreau is obsessively concerned about the cupholders on the ML he's scouting; "What about the cupholders?" he asked on cue for the cameras, about 40,000 times. (Get it, "Cup" holder?) One time, he called it a popholder. Another time he lost the words; ... Source: capitals.nhl.com --- 19 days ago

After the first period of the inaugural Gaetan Duchesne Cup tournament, Team A has a 2-0 lead on goals by Jay Beagle and Alex Ovechkin. Ovechkin's goal, scored on Jose Theodore, came on the second of three shorthanded breakaways for him in the opening frame. It was a pretty goal, but Ovechkin did crash hard into the boards after scoring and appeared to favor his left shoulder as he skated to the bench. Simeon Varlamov, meantime, was a rock in Team B's net, thwarting a Donald Brashear breakaway with an eye-popping toe save. Update:At the of the second period, Team A continues to cling to a 2-0 lead. Ovechkin, by the way, appears to be fine. He did not miss a shift, and even had a fourth breakaway. This time he skated in against junior goalie Braden Holtby, who made the biggest save of his career. Update:Team B rallied for ... Source: www.thehockeynews.com --- 12 days ago

When asked which of the rookie camp participants have stood out over the first three days, Coach Bruce Boudreau didn't think about it long. Defensemen Karl Alzner and John Carlson topped his short list, with honorable mentions going to forwards Steve Pinizzotto, Jay Beagle, Brett Leffler, Oskar Osala, and the three goalies (Michal Neuvirth, Braden Holtby and Simeon Varlamov). "You hate to say the same guys, but Alzner looks like he wants to play - and not in the rookie game," Boudreau said. "The thing I like about him is he takes direction so well. You can tell he's played at a high level." "The guy who has surprised me the most is Carlson," Boudreau said. "He's come in great shape and has done a great job." Although I don't think the organization has made a final determination as to where Alzner will start the season, it sounds like he's ... Source: www.ngnews.ca --- 1 day ago

In his pregame interview, Coach Bruce Boudreau confirmed that Jose Theodore will start in net tonight against the Blackhawks and the lineup will be the same from yesterday's season opener. Boudreau did talk to Theodore, but said that this game needs to serve as a clean slate for the whole team, not just the team's prime free-agent signee, who gave up four goals on 17 shots in the 7-4 loss to Atlanta. "That was the most goals we've given up," Boudreau said. "There were some bad goals by the goalie but they weren't all goalie mistakes. It was an embarrassing, and we put the onus back on the same group of guys that played to come back and see if they can do better." After the loss to the Thrashers, Boudreau said his greatest disappointment was special teams. The Capitals were 2 for 7 on the power play last night. ... Source: www.sportingnews.com --- 3 days ago

Although it's the final preseason game, the Capitals continue to experiment with different line combinations - granted, today's mixing and matching is a partial product of Nicklas Backstrom being unavailable because of a cold, but Coach Bruce Boudreau is looking forward to see how Dave Steckel fares at left wing. "I always wanted to try Steckel on left wing," Boudreau said. "Semin and Fedorov are pretty skilled guys. Lets see if Steckel can play wing with them and move Brooks up into Nicky's spot." Quintin Laing, whose wife gave birth to their second child, a boy, earlier this week, will miss his third straight preseason game but Boudreau said that Laing's absence doesn't mean the Caps are any less fond of him. "He played 39 games (with the Caps last season) and we know exactly what he's bringing to the table. We know that he's going to bring it in ... Source: blog.washingtonpost.com --- 6 days ago
A few comments from Boudreau on the demotion of Chris Bourque and Karl Alzner as well as putting Quintin Laing on waivers: *On telling the players: "They were the toughest cuts I've ever had to make. Because they did everything they could. It's just not in the cards right now, for whatever reason. We know they are going to play games for us." *On the team's plans for Fedorov now that there are only six defensemen on the roster: "We signed him as a centerman. We expect him to be our No. 2 centerman. But we feel very confident that he can go back [on defense] and play if we need it." "If we feel he's better suited back there in the future, that gives us options to do things." *Boudreau deferred all questions about whether the Alzner decision was performance based or salary cap based to GM George McPhee, ...
