Deborah Willis, Chair and University Professor at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts Photography and Imaging, is presenting a lecture on her photography, exhibitions, and books. The lecture includes a premier Book Signing of Obama: The Historic Campaign in Photography (Amistad/HarperCollins). Named 100 People in photography by American Photography Magazine, she is a 2005 Guggenheim Fellow, 2005 Fletcher Fellow, and began a MacArthur Fellow in 2000. Her curated exhibition "Rhapsody in Black and White," which features the photographs of famed Philadelphia Photographer, Charles "Teenie" Harris, is on exhibit at DIVA in downtown Eugene. Her most notable projects include the recent exhibitions 1968: Then and Now; Let Your Motto be Resistance and her publications include Obama: The Historic Campaign in Photography (Amistad/HarperCollins), The Black Female Body: A Photographic History (Temple University Press), and Reflections in Black: A History of Black Photographers 1840 to the present. Her own photographic work has been included in exhibitions throughout the U.S. She is currently completing a Book entitled Posing Beauty with W.W. When Harper’s Weekly was founded in 1857 as a weekly illustrated news magazine, it commissioned artists to travel around the world drawing pictures that were reproduced as engravings. “Imagine a Time magazine of the 19th century,” said Eureka Books owner Scott Brown. “Harper’s did some incredible things.
