Part wizard and part private eye, this animated skeleton has a bone to pick with evil-doers. Another fantasy series geared for the 9-12 crowd (and suitable for adults!) arrived on the shelves last year. I bought Skulduggery Pleasant last year and misplaced it in the jumble of books I constantly cycle through. It wasn’t until I saw (and purchased) the second novel, Playing With Fire, that I remembered the first Book in the... ... Source: blogcritics.org --- 28 minutes ago
Simplifies and complicates the world simultaneously. Have you ever wondered why so many bad teams seem to win so many games? Have you ever pondered why a truck driver’s job is harder than an executive position with higher pay? Have you ever marvelled at how traffic can clog up even the simplest of roadways? All of these questions seem to beg a sort of complex argument, although the explanations... ... Francine Harper discovers much more than her husband's wandering heart. Her dealing with the situation is a madcap, hilarious adventure. No one could have prepared Francine Harper for all of the ups and downs and twists and turns her life would take when the “honeymoon ended” during her second year of marriage. And as a result of all the turmoil, nothing would ever be the same in Pickville Springs, the sleepy rural town in northern Georgia where Francine and her husband... ... Can you build a whole novel out of a complaint letter? Jonathan Miles does just that in this novel. Can you build a whole novel on a rant? Jonathan Miles apparently thinks so. His new Book Dear American Airlines is in the form of a long complaint letter to the carrier that left him stranded at Chicago's O'Hare Airport.Of course, you're wondering how you can stretch out a gripe about a delayed flight into a whole novel. Well, that depends on... ... Source: blogcritics.org --- 7 hours ago
Watching the submarine races with doo wop. Everybody who lived through the 1950s and 1960s knows Doo Wop. Doo Wop: The Music, The Times, The Era, by "Cousin Brucie" Morrow with Rich Maloof is for those who didn't have the privilege of listening to this music as it was being made, as well as for those who lived it, who lived through it, and danced to it. A glorification of low culture and a mighty political gesture all in one. Looking back at a distant youth, my mind strains to remember its first encounter with Steven Seagal. Was it the patchwork of naval fisticuffs known as Under Siege? Perhaps. The pugilistic tremble of Nico/Above the Law? Maybe. The virgin trip to a place called Out in Out for Justice? Again, it’s possible. Actually, although I’m hindered... ...

Unlike The Reluctant Fundamentalist , The Islamist is a true story, the story of Muhammad Mahbub Husain, who became an Islamic fundamentalist, saw the light and then went back to civil society. Husain's main thesis which runs through the entire Book as he tells his story is very simple. There are two types of religious Muslims. The ones like his father who are extremely religious, but have the sense to keep their religion private and never let it influence their political views and outlook. And there are others – the fanatics – who believe that Islam is a complete solution which teaches men how to pray, govern themselves, conduct wars, dress, interact with others etc. The second group is much smaller than first group, but is a lot more vicious and has been spoilt by democratic and tolerant Britain. Democracy, or people's rule, is anathema to fundamentalist Muslims since only Allah should govern (and the Koran contains Allah's words and will). Using the democratic institutions they seek to subvert, Fundamentalist Muslims have wreaked havoc within Britain, especially within the Islamic community in their quest for a global Islamic state. Husain calls upon the British authorities to crush the fundamentalists, for the fundamentalists cannot be reformed. Fundamentalists Muslims will always try to subvert democracy and civil society, even if they are allowed to preach and practice their version of Islam. It is incorrect to say that past ... IMAP is one of the most common protocols for e-mail servers on the Internet. Web-based e-mail services like Gmail and Hotmail use IMAP to retrieve and display e-mails in the browser, and e-mail clients like Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird support the protocol. In The Book of IMAP , there is a thorough practical explanation for setting up e-mail servers with courier IMAP or cyrus IMAP. By default, these include the POP3 server. IMAP is a more mature version of POP3 allowing users to manipulate operations on their mailboxes stored on the mail server. The Book is divided into three main parts - the first deals with the generic set up and maintenance of IMAP servers, Courier-IMAP and Cyrus-IMAP implementations are covered in the second and third parts. For large scale implementations of IMAP mail servers, there is a requirement to efficiently handle the mail requests in real-time. For this purpose, there is the requirement of load-balancing among servers connected to a common storage at the backend via SAN/NAS. An alternative way is to split the mail database access across several servers based on some ordering of the mail accounts. Both of these implementations are explained in detail. Again, for very large environments there is the possibility to have a IMAP proxy arrangement in place which can each lead to the load balancing arrangement of IMAP servers connected to the fast storage backend. Other important topics covered ... Source: www.caribousmom.com --- 11 hours ago
“Well from what you’ve told me, the Book has survived the same human disaster over and over again. Think about it. By Dan This Review was submitted by Jeff Hartz. Writer: Len Wein Artists: Jose Luis Garcia Lopez Dick Giordano Okay, so I have a couple of reasons for submitting this Review. Number one is the fact that while we wait for Omar and Melanie to return from their wonderful honeymoon, it's time for some of us to step up and provide some filler for the website. Number two is that with both "The Incredible Hulk" and "The Dark Knight" hitting theatres this summer, it sounds like the right time to look back at this 1981 classic. You can find this story in The Crossover Classics Volume One trade paperback, unless you're really old like Ray and I and have the original copy we got in or youth. The story begins with people dreams starting to become real, such as a sweltering summer dream of Arctic Ice and monsters in the horror movie. It seems the Shaper of Worlds, an old Hulk villain that was originally a Skrull-created Cosmic Cube experiment (Damn! Those Skrulls are EVERYWHERE !!!) is going insane and losing his ability to use other people's dreams as a blueprint to alter reality. Seeking out a unique mind in the Universe to help him find a cure he turns to... The Joker! It seems there is a chance of a cure using a Gamma-Gun being developed at Wayne Enterprises as a way to cure all Mankind's diseases. So the Joker attempts to steal it, unaware that secretly working as day labor at the project is Bruce Banner. He's there to find out if the Gamma Gun ... Source: www.topix.com --- 11 hours ago

Packt sent me a copy of “ Learning jQuery ” by Jonathan Chaffer and Karl Swedberg. jQuery is a javascript library that I have been using on and off and was delighted to be given a chance to Review this Book and have a chance to read through and learn about jQuery in a less urgent manner than I had initially. With a tag-line of “Better Interaction Design and Web Development with Simple JavaScript Techniques” and some 376 pages long (split into 10 chapters, along with three appendices) the Book excels at fulfilling that promise. From the chapter on Getting Started through selectors (css, dom, xpath), Chaffer and Swedberg examine and show how to use jQuery for animations, ajax and manipulating tables to the all important client-side form validation with disarmingly concise eloquence and skill. They also detail how to use and develop jQuery Plug-ins. Any of the required server-side code examples, for the AJAX chapter, are in PHP but that doesn’t make the Book any less relevant or more specialised towards PHP - it should be trivial to rework them for any language. The authors use an example based approach and this works very well as they continue to progressively enhance each example with additional features and functionality - you can really see their shopping cart and image carousel examples really build up into very well formed examples of what can be done with jQuery. If you haven’t already been turned on to jQuery by it’s excellent on-l ... Source: christianbookreviews.net --- 7 hours ago
