Though we may not be offering a finger to you here, we will try to leave that for the billboards and try to keep this civil. The last few days have not been good to Realtors in Mobile, Alabama. First, word from on high at the U.S. Defense Department that the tanker contract has been "terminated" until after the election. Up until last week's announcement, Mobilians were still feeling pretty positive vibes that the tanker contract would be awarded to Northrup/EADS. There was hope the announcement would bring a boom to the local economy with vendor groupies chomping at the bit to build close by, hire more workers, draw more commerce, and create a demand for housing. But just like getting sloppy drunk on a Friday night takes days to recover, so will Mobile and the tanker contract. It's not to say, Mobile doesn't stand a snowballs chance anymore, but the whining Boeing lobbyists and Supporters are regaining their strength after "binging" for awhile on reputation, cries over not being treated fairly, and the continuous chant on the loss of American jobs. Give me an aspirin and wake me when it's over. And if that wasn't enough bad news, we get smacked in the face yesterday with the news of more crumbling financial institutions and crashing stock markets. When is it going to end? When can we wake up without a hangover dreading the day ahead till we're the happy go-lucky agents with more buyers than houses to sell? But I don't want to end on a negative note.
