A Marion High School teacher has informed the Marion Daily Republican that he is the subject of a special Meeting of the Unit 2 school Board called for Tuesday, Aug. 5. Although he declined to give many details on the record, Dave Schoenecke said the closed Meeting has been scheduled to consider the termination of his employment with the school district. Schoenecke, a 30-year teacher who has been a vocational teacher in Unit 2 for 10 years, said his possible termination comes after a disciplinary incident in his classroom this spring. After reporting the incident to a school administrator, Schoenecke was placed on paid leave for the remainder of the school year. He was unsure of his status for the coming school year before receiving notice of a special school Board Meeting to discuss the incident and possibly take action concerning him. When he returned from a trip, he received the notice one day prior to the Meeting, originally scheduled for July 28. The Meeting was postponed one week due to the late notice. “I have been given approximately one week to prepare my defense against a four month long district investigation,” Schoenecke said. He has requested that the Meeting be postponed for a month in order to give him time to adequately review, respond to, and, he says, defend against the district’s apparent intention to terminate his employment. So far there have been no fireworks, with only a facetious request that Yahoo Board members punch time cards to prove how long they're working. (Roy Bostock said, no problem.) Yahoo Chairman Roy Bostock reiterated the standard Yahoo strategy and said the company was hitting its targets. He noted, "Microsoft's initial $31 bid was the only written proposal ever received by the company...In an offhand comment, (Microsoft said to one of our executives), 'There may be a few more dollars on the table. It was never explicitly communicated to the Board, and never communicated in writing." On Yahoo's partnership with Google, Bostock said, "After Microsoft withdrew the offer, and only after they withdrew the offer, we entered into a deal with Google."
