Obama is getting hit hard by McCain today, in a conference call , for an interview in which he appeared to go beyond supporting the recent Supreme Court decision granting habeas corpus rights to Guantanamo detainees (which McCain opposed) by suggesting that they may be entitled to criminal trials. It could be fertile ground for McCain, an opening to attack Obama where he's weakest on issues of strength, toughness on terrorism, and suggest that his juridical mindset will get in the way of doing what's necessary to protect the country. Obama was arguing that, unlike Bush, he could secure national security without violating the Constitution: "....(L)et's take the example of Guantanamo. What we know is that, in previous terrorist attacks -- for example, the first attack against the World Trade Center, we were able to arrest those responsible, put them on trial.
