By David Roberts Listen Play "The Next Messiah," by Jenny Lewis Jenny Lewis came to indie fame as the singer for Rilo Kiley; since then, her profile has all but eclipsed theirs. (I'd bet their latest album, Under the Blacklight , is their last.) Her 2006 solo debut album Rabbit Fur Coat had critics all in a tizzy and, if I'm not mistaken, sold better than any Rilo Kiley album. I suspect her new album, Acid Tongue , will mark her official arrival as a Major Artist. It has guest appearances from Elvis Costello, Chris Robinson of The Black Crows, and Zooey Deschanel of She & Him . Its adventurous-yet-classicist countrified torch-song sound is very much in vogue these days. And face it: she's a an ex-child actress, smart as a whip, idiosyncratic in her music and aesthetic tastes, and, ahem, hot. Oh, and she writes her own stuff. That's all crack to the music press. Not to say she isn't legitimately talented. I was goo-gooing over her way back around RK's first release. I prefer RK's stuff to her solo material -- it's poppier and more propulsive -- but this album is, nonetheless, a killer. The indisputable highlight is this song, an almost-nine-minute multi-part epic called "The Next Messiah." No, it's not about Obama -- I believe it's about her father, who left her family when she was a child and with whom she was recently reunited (he plays some harmonica on the album). I love ambitious songs like this. More multi-part epics please! ...

Hello, and thanks in advance for any help provided! Im not after very typical homeowner advice, but judging from the wealth of knowledge that seems to be kicking around here im sure somebody could help. My goal is to build myself a portable Blacklight that works on either AC or DC12vlt power sources and can either be plugged into any standard wall socket or attached easily to a car or motorcycle battery. I will straight out admit im nearly completely incompetent when it comes to electrical issues, but im a big believer in DIY. Neil Fallon of Clutch - more photos photo by Jeff Barringer - Staff Photographer by Jeff Barringer - Staff Writer Clutch Hometown: Germantown, Maryland http://www.pro-rock.com Clutch Concert Photos Saturday, October 4th, 2008 Stubb's BarBQ (Austin, Texas) Also: Graveyard , The Sword A sold out crowd greeted Clutch at their Austin appearance at Stubb's, but each band on the tour brought their own hardcore following so it was sometimes tough to tell who was the headliner. Starting out with night was the band Graveyard from Sweden, a 4 piece stoner rock band that sounded straight out of the Blue Cheer school of psychedelic metal. Huge overblown epic metal masterpieces with a distinct late 60's Cream/Yardbirds blues feel. The only thing missing was the crude 60's Blacklight posters and lava lamps. They didn't have much of a stage presence, not interacting with the crowd, or each other for that matter, intensely focusing on playing, but I don't think the crowd was there for a Van Halen style show. With only a short 4 song, 30 minute set, I was kind of disappointed when it ended and I know I wanted to hear more. I guess that is what they make headphones, mp3 players, and fractal programs for (Dude, those colors are neat...you got any cheetos?).
