The author builds an 'Eco Shed,' and it costs about $90,000. Environmentally friendly? Mostly, but it ain't cheap. AS KERMIT the Frog once made famous in Song, "it's not that easy being green." This is the lesson learned from James Glave's humorous, ecology-minded "Almost Green: How I Saved 1/6th of a Billionth of the Planet" -- though it's worth noting that the difficulties Glave encounters striving for greenness are completely different from the ones Kermit sings about as he laments his coloring's tendency to make him blend in with ordinary things. ... Music labels are rebelling against Apple's online dominance. Trouble is, their options are limited. You might think the music industry would be grateful to Apple Inc. for creating and promoting the iTunes Store, one of the bright spots in music retailing during a decade of plunging sales. In June, the store passed another milestone, notching its 5 Billionth Song sold , either individually or in albums. If it keeps up the current pace, it could top 7 billion early next year. And yet numerous executives at the major record companies chafe at Apple's success, complaining that its dominance among online music stores has them hamstrung. ...

Michael Arrington submits: It took Apple's (AAPL) iTunes nearly three years to get to 1 billion Song downloads. MySpace Music (NWS) streamed a billion songs in just a few days after it launched on September 25. And while this isn’t a fair comparison (songs on MySpace are free to stream; on iTunes users were paying $0.99 each), it’s an incredible milestone. What MySpace won’t say for some reason is what the Billionth Song was, or when exactly it was streamed (which would be nice for trivia purposes). But they are confirming that the Billionth stream was initiated sometime last week , just a few days after launch. They are also issuing a rather convoluted statement: Complete Story » ... Andrea Chalupa writes: Looks like cat's out of that bag as to why EMI was holding out from joining other major labels in turning over music catalogues to MySpace Music , which streamed its Billionth Song within a week of its launch last month. Though EMI ultimately signed on, it turns out the U.K.-based music company was planning to launch its own music distribution site, EMI.com, the Financial Times reports. The site, which execs are promising will merely be a "laboratory" or "digital sandbox" of music, will sell downloads--pitting it at least in some respects in competition with MySpace Music, and appears to be yet another attempt by labels to recapture online revenue lost to iTunes and others. Spearheading the site are EMI owner Guy Hands and Google vet Douglas Merrill. But are they really expecting music fans to look to the labels of their favorite artists to buy their music, instead of the one-stop-shops of Rhapsody, iTunes, and now MySpace Music? Downplaying any competitive aspect, EMI says that its new site, which launches this fall, will be more about the promotion of their artists, and fans online won't even know they stumbled onto the label's site--that's how inconspicuous of a marketplace it will be. Keri Hilson 's debut album 'In a Perfect World' has been pushed back by one week to October 14th. Originally, it was set to drop on September 23rd and then moved to October 7th. This now means that Keri will be going up against Ludacris ' 'Theater of the Mind'. This is not looking good for Keri. We have more chance of Rihanna and Teairra Mari doing a duet together than Keri's album seeing the light of day in 2008 OR at all for that matter. I personally think the album will end up getting shelved like Mya 's 'Liberation' and Amerie 's 'Because I Love It'. I'm not even that psyched about Keri's album as much as I was earlier on in the year. Most of her album has leaked anyway so all the songs that have leaked I added them to her mixtape that became available last year. Keri should have struck whilst the iron was hot when her featured collaboration with Timbaland 's 'The Way I Are' was blazing up the charts on BOTH sides of the Atlantic. The Song ended Rihanna's 10-week no 1 reign with 'Umbrella' last summer in the UK. As for her Song 'Return The Flavour' that has leaked in full over the weekend, I have nothing much to add. My comments are pretty much the same as the ones when the snippet of the same Song leaked some weeks back. The beat (Timbaland) is predictable and not that interesting. Anyway, why am I not surprised at this news? If you're not Tim's no 1 bitch ( Justin Timberlake ), you don't really stand a chance. Look how wrong he d ... Source: www.revolt-media.com --- 7 days ago

'Writing To Reach You' , 'Selfish Jean' , ' Closer ', 'More Than Us' , 'Driftwood', 'Flowers In The Window', 'Re-Offender' and 'Something Anything' . All of these are wonderful songs by Travis . I know, as a 'serious music fan', I'm not supposed to rate Travis but they're great. Let's get the mudslinging out the way first. '12 Memories' is quite poor and its effect on their sales may never be reversed. However, it's pretty much their sole aberration. I've got 'The Man Who' on as I type this and it sounds marvellous. The sound is rich and warm and the songs are, at worst, gently charming and, at best, genuinely affecting. Balls to the fact that plenty of bands have tried to do this since, (go on Lightbody , fuck off) it doesn't make these songs any less great. The album was a sneaky success when it came out, gradually gathering momentum until it was virtually compulsory to buy it in order to be allowed to purchase bread and milk for your hungry family. And, like so many others, 'Why Does It Always Rain On Me? ', got on my nerves after the Billionth play during Glastonbury footage, but I'm even rehabilitated towards that Song now. My return to Travis' bosom came about as a result of hearing their utterly splendid new single, 'Something Anything' for a second time. When I first heard it, I wasn't convinced it. It sounded a little bland and, well, chuggy. The second listen enabled me to hear the wailing backing vocal in the chorus. Now, reg ... Source: v0idnull.livejournal.com --- 74 days ago
Music: music is doing well. I'm writing a new Song now and still trying to piece together a band. Drummer is my target right now and it's not easy. Everyone wants to be a superstar, even at the cost of their artistic integrity. Finding God (the scifi show): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QqsLkrwCMk - The "doughnut" of Psikon. A few more tweaks and this video intro will be done. I did this entirely from scratch, including the weird staccato sound. Putting together some final touches here and there. But there is a catch, someone made a mod for Half Life 2 (the video game I'm manipulating for this show), called the "Cinematic Mod". It's sole purpose is to bring HD quality graphics to Half Life 2. This includes dramatic improvements to the human characters. I'm going to have to rethink my characters a little bit and rethink how they should sound based on their new models. *We woke up at 9:55am. It turns out I am a much happier person in general when I've woken up at 9:55am. *Went to Walmart where my son didn't beg for anything and didn't insist on riding in/on/under their filthy carts. Got everything on my list including a valance for over the kitchen sink which I decided had to be hung before I left for work so I grabbed a chair and hung it up dressed only in my underwear which wouldn't have been a big deal if my neighbor wasn't out smoking on his back deck. Oops. And also, why wasn't he at work. *Went to Toys R Us because I'm the best mommy ever and realized all their Halloween costumes were out on display. We started trying them all on and Lucas decided for the Billionth time what he wants to be for Halloween...drum roll please... I think it suits him, don't you? Fortunately for me Unfortunately for him, all the registers were down at Toys R Us so we couldn't make any purchases...so he still has time to change his mind. HA! *We drove home from Walmart with the sounds of the Jonas Brothers blasting from the car stereo. If you're rolling your eyes at me now I dare you pop over to You Tube and watch their VMA performance. They are cute as a button and wholesome as can be. The boy also ROCKED OUT on the air guitar during the entire Song, which, if you haven't seen it in person, is pretty damn cute. Also? The bullet feature on blogger doesn't seem to work...guess I'll have to bullet this thing myself. *An ... Source: bybeebooks.blogspot.com --- 66 days ago
I've been curious about Korean literature since I moved here, but until now, I haven't met anyone that I could get into an in-depth discussion with about it. Exploring at the bookstores, I've discovered a few short novels and books of short stories that have been both enjoyable and moving, but nothing that seemed to have great scope. For a while, this made sense. South Korea seems like the least likely place to breed novelists, because the pace of life is frenetic. Bali-bali (hurry! hurry!) seems to be their theme Song, and not only are Koreans going as fast as they can, they pride themselves on how many activities they can cram into a single 24-hour period. Anyway, not a reflective sort of environment. I reasoned that any literary attempts would have to be short. Still, I thought there had to be some literature, because their recent history has been so dramatic and often sad. Where was Korea's War and Peace ? For the Billionth time, I cursed at my lack of proximity to a decent university library here in Korea...or at least one where the damn Dewey Decimal System didn't stop at 799! Those books were somewhere, hiding! Enough with the trips to temples, mask festivals and kimchi museums...show me the literature! Finally, I found my answer in The Korea Herald , when I read about a novelist that died just this past May. Park Kyung-Ni (pictured above) wrote the classic Korean novel, the one that kids have to read at least excerpts of in scho ... Find more results for Billionth Song on RSSMicro.com |
