By Shailagh Murray DUBLIN, Ohio -- Presidential candidates rarely linger anywhere. But today Sen. Barack Obama spent nearly four hours inside a Cleveland church at a memorial service for Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones. He had some impressive company: Former president Bill Clinton and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, along with Sen. Joseph Biden, his Wife Jill, and Michelle Obama. All were there to pay their respects to the late Democratic congresswoman, who died suddenly last week. Tubbs Jones was one of Clinton's most prominent African American supporters, an outspoken loyalist until the New York senator dropped out of the race. But then she switched to Obama. The gathering today stretched nearly twice its scheduled two-hour length, but represented another step toward party unity following the progress this week in Denver, when both Clintons forcefully advocated for Obama in Democratic National Convention speeches. Obama and Biden will hold a rally tonight outside ...

Days before their 1997 wedding ceremony, comedian Bill Murray and his Wife, Jennifer Butler Murray, entered into a (excerpted below and on the following four pages). "Jennifer … is aware that Bill is a person of very substantial means and income," the document said (Page 2). The agreement stipulated that Murray would "continue to retain all right title and interest … to all separate property he may now own or hereafter acquire" (Page 3). As a wedding present, Bill agreed to buy his bride a modest house ("not exceeding one million dollars") of her own ("title … taken in Jennifer's sole name"—Page 5). In the "event of marital discord," Jennifer would relinquish her rights to alimony (Page 4) and instead receive within 60 days of the marriage's dissolution a lump-sum "marital award" of $7 million (Page 5). The reference in Sunday's column to Tippy Martinez's feat 25 years ago (next Sunday) has provoked an outpouring of comments. (I'm just posting a sample received by e-mail; the rest of you can post to this blog.) Seems like every Orioles fan was there that night, just as Tippy has said over the years. It's the thing for which he is best remembered. (I always felt his short-lived line of salsa's was pretty good.) Thanks to everyone who wrote in today. From Steve Carlyle: "I was wondering if you also knew that because of all of Altobelli’s defensive moves, that the 2nd baseman for that inning was another fan favorite (and legendary character) John Lowenstein. I was at the game with my Wife and another couple, (we sat in the upper deck on the 3rd base side) and when the final out was made we started high-fiving everybody around us, I got too exuberant and high-fived my friend’s Wife’s forehead…hard! Oops! Thankfully the excitement of the situation overwhelmed her pain. Thanks for bringing that memory up again." From Bill Ratherbe (he'd rather be anonymous for some reason): "It's even better... Because of the manager's moves, Gary Roenicke and/or John Lowenstein was (or were) playing at 2nd base and/or 3rd base. The story goes, Tippy kept throwing over to 1st basebecause Eddie Murray was the only guy he recognized as being where he belonged!" From Rob Beaty: "Wow, did you bring back memories. I was at that game. A friendwho worked for Mar ...

Rolling Stone 's and MTV's Kurt Loder gives two thumbs up to the new documentary about journalist Hunter S. Thompson: The late Hunter S. Thompson was a dazzling writer who in his days of greatness—from the mid-1960s to the mid-'70s, approximately—misled a lot of younger writers into believing that if they just ingested enough drugs and alcohol, they, too, could write like Hunter S. Thompson. It didn't work that way. In the end, it didn't even work that way for Hunter anymore. In "Gonzo," Alex Gibney's moving new documentary about Thompson, we meet the man foursquare: not just the brilliant, rampaging star of the "new journalism" of that period, but also the irascible crank, the drunken gun nut, the public menace. Hunter was much-loved by his many admiring cronies, among them Bill Murray, Keith Richards and Johnny Depp (who narrates the film). "On the other hand," says his ex-Wife Sandy, "he was absolutely vicious." Such balanced candor is rare in any documentary, and it makes "Gonzo" the most transfixing film about a troubled artist since the 1994 "Crumb." Sounds well worth watching. More here . It's pointless trying to second guess Bill Murray - just when you've got him pegged as crazy old joker he'll turn up in a Jim Jarmusch movie. Then, just when you've decided that Bill Murray is an indie wunderkid he'll go and do Garfield 2: A Tale Of Two Kitties. Then, right when Bill Murray is being accused by his ex-Wife of being a violent drunken drug addict, he goes and leaps out of plane to raise money for wounded war veterans, which he plans to do next month. It's so confusing, isn't it? Why can't Bill Murray just try and combine his various identities into one manageable identity. Yes, that's right, we are suggesting that Bill Murray makes a zany comedy movie about a cartoon cat searching for meaning in his life by getting leathered on booze, jumping out of a plane and punching a woman in the face. That's exactly what we're suggesting. What of it? ... Source: www.broowaha.com --- 32 days ago
Last week, while mindlessly thumbing through some magazine at the exclusive Beverly Hills salon that I entrust with the care and styling of my full head of sexy hair, I came upon a photo of a woman I vaguely recognized. She wasn’t celebrity familiar, but personal level familiar: maybe a family friend; maybe a former coworker; maybe some chick I coitused after six dirty Belvedere martinis whom I never saw again. I studied her photo more carefully, looked at her name in the caption and read a couple of sentences about her in the article. Then it hit me like Bill Murray hits his Wife after an evening of booze and marijuana, sending her into hiding at a near-by hotel: this girl was one of the standard-issue, perky-spunky-frisky-yay sorority girls on the Greek A-list party circuit in college. It may have even been the girl I saw evacuate her bladder (...) ... Source: www.celebritypro.com --- 67 days ago

DAVID DUDLEY IS the exception on the FLW Tour of professional anglers. He not only is the 2008 Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year for 2008 with five victories, but also he is among the few who make a healthy living as a full-time fisherman. It does not come easy for Dudley, or any of the other 77 competitors in this weekend’s FLW Forrest Wood Cup on Lake Murray. “To make a living at fishing, it is tough,” says Dudley, a Lynchburg, Va., native who ranks fourth in bass fishing history with over $2.5 million in earnings. Still, the 32-year-old Dudley goes week to week worrying about whether he can support his Wife and four children. “You never know as a professional bass fisherman,” Dudley says. “I don’t know if I can pay my mortgage, my light Bill, my food Bill, my diapers for my kids. I don’t have a clue if I’m going to supply my family, because I don’t know.” Dudley’s situation is testament to the fickle nature of the sport. No matter the angler’s skill level, he sometimes faces a weekend or two when bass simply are not biting. Fortunately for Dudley, he has ascended to the point in his sport at which sponsorships remove much of the financial burden. ...

I got this from Army of Mom and found it funny reading her answers. My family passes these "Getting To Know You" surveys around all the time, so here are my answers to AoM's survey. AoM said... "can't even remember where I got this magazine, but it is pretty interesting. Called "Movies Rock" thre is a little Q&A on the back page with Bill Murray. The author resurrects a 1967 Tiger Beat interview with The Monkees. They posed the same questions to Murray. I'm going to give it a try:" How would your mother describe you in one word? Here's an interesting reality TV casting note: An 82-year-old Oscar winner, Cloris Leachman, was being considered by Dancing With the Stars , sources say, because they needed some to work the "disability" angle. Seriously . Think Marlee Maltin (deafness) or Heather Mills (one leg, f*%ked in the brain). They thought Cloris' age would fit the Bill. That is, until they snagged Toni Braxton , who has a heart condition, and Cloris was told to hang up her dancing shoes. Maybe next year. BT-Dubs, Dancing With the Stars producers are reportedly over the moon that Jewel and Ty Murray (above) - both in the mix for next season - just eloped in the Bahamas. A little husband-Wife rivalry in the house! Lastly, the Lance Bass rumors: He's definitely on board for DWTS, but no, the gay former *NSync member won't have a male partner.
