clipped by: missjackson Clip Source: www.thelocal.de A new survey has found that every ninth person in Berlin and even more in the surrounding state of Brandenburg wants the Berlin Wall back. Life was better back then, Wall supporters said. The survey, conducted by the Forsa research institute for Berlin’s Free University, asked if respondents agreed with the statement "It would be better if the Wall were still there.“ In the western part of Berlin, 11 percent agreed with that statement, while in eastern Berlin, it was 12 percent, according to political scientist Oskar Niedermeyer, who reported the figures on Thursday. In the suburbs around Berlin, nine percent said the Wall’s return would be welcomed. In the parts of Brandenburg furthest from Berlin, 14 percent agreed that the former barrier was a good thing. Forsa carried out the survey at the end of March and beginning of April by pollling 2,000 residents in Berlin and Brandenburg. ...

In one of the most ridiculous examples of unbridled hyperbole, Reuters has decided that singer Bruce Springsteen is the one responsible for bringing down the Berlin Wall and ending the Cold War. Yes, that's Bruce "Scorn in the USA" Springsteen, one of the most anti-American rockers on the scene. I know what you're thinking, "But what about Ronald Reagan?" Forget it, man, it's Bruce all the way as far as Reuters is concerned. Maybe it was his gravely warbling that Joshua-like brought those walls tumblin' down, maybe his caterwauling is what turned the trick, but, quite despite any common sense and in a childishly, foolish and overly simplistic review of history, Reuters is sure that Bruce is the hero of Berlin . It is a great example of reductio ad absurdo if there ever was one, not that Reuters is aware of it. This Reuters piece is so filled with nonsense, so blind to all the complicated political and social influences that really ended the Cold War, that it is hard to know where to start reviewing it. I can but shake my head at its simple minded analysis. Seriously. Reuters really means it. Oh, don't confuse them with all that economic and political history gobbledegook. It was one concert that ended a generation of communist oppression not the might of the US and its president determined to destroy the "evil empire." It was "Thunder Road" and "Born to Run" sung in that less then melodic Springsteen style that brought the end to ...

ARTICLE SYNOPSIS: The flight option in the "fight or flight" decision has become more expensive. An "exit tax" has been passed to deter those seeking to give up their U.S. citizenship and residency. Follow this link to the original source: " Exit Tax for U.S. Expatriates to Become Law " COMMENTARY: Some Americans of means have defered from taking part in the ongoing fight for freedom. Their rationalization for inaction often goes like this: "Well, if it really get's bad in our country, I'll just leave." We are all fortunate that their logic still works. However, the U.S. Congress has finally carried through on its threat to make the option of giving up on the United States a much more expensive proposition. The Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Tax Act of 2008 provides tax relief to members of the miltary and their families. To offset the lost revenues from these tax breaks, the act includes an exit tax on citizens and long term residents of the United States, who seek to terminate their citizenship and residency status. The Exit Tax happened quickly . It was introduced on May 16, 2008. It passed with only 3 dissenting votes in the House on May 20 th . It passed in the Senate unanimously on May 22nd. All this in only 6 days. ( The three dissenting votes in the house were David Wu, Barney Frank and Ron Paul. ) The bill becomes law when President Bush signs it, or after 30 days from its passage, whichever comes first. If your c ...
