Ben Gordon has watched free agents come and go. But he is, at this point, the last major name left on the scrap heap of the NBA's free agent market. There has been a lot of speculation that he may go somewhere else and that he will never play as a Bull again, which means that my Gordon jersey is probably no longer relevant. "I guess it's safe to say I've played my last game in a Bulls uniform," Gordon has been quoted as saying. The most likely thing to happen, according to ESPN, is that there will be a sign-and-trade. Gordon's agent, Raymond Brothers, has reportedly been speaking to teams about that option. "I'm pretty optimistic it'll happen," said Gordon, who averaged 18.6 points last season. "It's very likely." The problem with Gordon is that he wants Luol Deng's contract, but he isn't really a starter. There have been reports that he is also looking at playing over in Europe. According to Fox Sports, he has also turned down a one-year qualifying offer of $6.4 million by the Bulls, and now it seems like he is going to have to find somewhere else to play. He can't force a sign-and-trade, although, at this point, it seems like that would be the best option for both parties. Now, the Salt Lake Tribune is going over the possibility of Gordon making his way over to the Utah Jazz. Although they admit that it is only a small possibility at this point. If they can get him at a reasonable price, he could be a welcomed addition to ... Source: www.moreover.com --- 2 days ago

By Andrew Wamboldt Greek news sources are reporting that Ben Gordon has been offered a $5.5 million contract with CSKA Moscow. That contract is the equivalent to an $8.9 million contract in the NBA, as European teams deal in net. Gordon is said to be demanding at least $7 million from CSKA Moscow, which would be the same amount that Josh Childress is making. That deal would be the ... by Marcel Mutoni Earlier this week, I posted an item about Ben Gordon possibly being in talks with a Russian team. Gordon never released an official statement regarding the rumor, and now we might know why: His agent made the whole thing up. Awesome! According to Andrey Vatutin, general manager of CSKA Moscow, there’s absolutely nothing brewing between Gordon and his ballclub. From The Hoop (who were kind enough to translate the Russian text from Soviet Sport ): Soviet Sport says that they contacted Nikos Zabaras, a basketball reporter of the greek newspaper Fos and asked him about the article that was published on contra.gr about Ben Gordon. Nikos Zabaras said that the agent of Ben Gordon wanted the article published on contra.gr in order to increase the projected salary of his client. “This whole thing is a dirty trick of the newspapers, we are NOT in negotiations with Ben Gordon,” said Vatutin. “At the moment all of our staff are currently on holiday. I’m personally on holidays in France and I haven’t heard anything about Ben Gordon.” Someone is lying here, but is it the Greek reporter or BG’s agent? It probably doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things; all we know for certain is that the Gordon situation is far from being resolved. ...

As far as I can tell, nobody quite knows what J.R. Smith signed for, but the general guess is in the $5-7m range for 3 years. [ 3yrs $16.5m -ed.] And as it further dwindles the list of significant unsigned 2004 draftees to pretty much Ben Gordon (with apologies to Delonte West)...the comparisons have come out. Matt Watson at Fanhouse : He's only 22 years old, but I doubt he'd want to agree to a longer deal, especially considering the only thing stopping him from getting Ben Gordon money (ie, $10 million plus a year, which Ben Gordon may or may not even get) is minutes. Smith averaged 23.0 points per 36 minutes last year; Gordon, just 21.0. And considering Smith is three inches taller and just as dangerous in the lane as behind the three-point line, there's no question he has loads more long-term upside. Tom Ziller at Sporting Blog : Ben Gordon will still be sitting at home, waiting for someone to offer him 175% what the Nuggets guard—younger, taller, more explosive, and increasingly reliable—got. If this doesn't hammer home the concept of "market value" to Gordon, really, nothing will. J.R. Smith is certainly taller than Ben Gordon! Doesn't quite help him be a better defender, draw more fouls, or rebound more effectively than Gordon, but...taller, sure. And they do have similar numbers. But Smith is no comparison to Ben Gordon, or pretty much anyone. The reason why a 3-season near-MLE deal isn't particularly raising eyebrows is ... Source: www.yardbarker.com --- 2 days ago
