They always say that there's no such thing as being permanently dead in science-fiction, and for the SciFi Channel, that seems to be hopping over to real-life where "Stargate SG-1" isn't totally dead because of its post-series telemovies. And now "Battlestar Galactica" may be looking to do the very same thing. Most people in last week's poll thought it was "as good as gone," and they were right. The songs Gaeta sang in the infirmary, along with the haunting music of Bear McCreary , were very well done. While we have some minor (and sometimes major) characters dying episode-to-episode, not so much feeling has been put into them as has been with Gaeta's amputation. Sad, yet beautiful. It's the censorship-evading word that stands as proof at how involved Battlestar Galactica has become in modern popular culture. Frak has even shown up in non-Cylon-friendly shows like Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls . But did you know that many households the world over are more familiar with frakking than you'd expect? More on that, and four other Frak Facts, after the jump.
Frak used to be much more polite : According to the Battlestar Wiki, "Frack" - the official spelling of the word for the original 1970s version of the show, according to the Writer's Guide - didn't always mean "fuck":
"Frack" is a Colonial expletive, roughly analagous to "shit" or even the milder "rats" or "darn" of the Original Series.
Apparently, the word was popularized in the original show by Dirk Benedict's Starbuck, giving him one karmic point back in return for playing Faceman.
The first use of the "Frak" spelling? A videogame : Frak! was a game released for the BBC Micro, Commodore 64 and Acorn Electron released in 1984, all about a caveman called Trogg jumping around platforms trying to find keys. When he died, he yelled out "Frak!" in anger. Does this mean that the final Cylon in Battlestar Galactica was actually a caveman, and we are all ancestors of toasters? Think about it.

Last-humans-on-the-run-from-robots show Battlestar Galactica may not wrap up all its stray plots in its fourth season after all. BSG has already gotten the green light to film three more TV movies, along the lines of last fall's Razor , after the season ends, claims one science fiction podcast. The Doctor and Mrs. Who radio show host Jim Laccino cited inside sources claiming there will be a series of movies following up on season 4 of BSG . The movies will go into production over the summer and will include some of the original cast. He speculates that we'll see one of them by the end of the year. And he reminded us that actress Mary McDonnell did say that this was not the last we'd see of BSG (but is the last of the one-hour show). If that's true, and we have our doubts, no thanks. Let good work end on the artists' terms and not to continue to line corporate pockets.
