Apparently , a surgeon has been committing Battery on his patients by applying temporary tattoos to their bodies while they are unconscious during surgery. Given the way physicians are trained to believe they are gods who function on a practical and ethical plane that is above mere mortals, this kind of shit doesn't surprise me one bit. From a legal standpoint, this is clearly Battery, as these patients gave informed consent to a particular operation, and not to having temporary tattoos placed on their bodies while unconscious. They actually recommend to turn off 3G, but you don't have to go that far -- just by holding down the Home button, you can close any background applications sucking up juice. And by resetting your phone, you can do the same thing -- clear out anything running that you're not using. Actually, while I was in Los Angeles last week, I heard the great Leo Laporte mention a great tip on his radio show: turn off the "Ask to join networks" feature in the WiFi settings. If you're like me, you almost always know when there's a WiFi network around that you can use on your iPhone, and so it's pointless (and a waste of Battery life) for the iPhone to be constantly searching for one. You can always flip it back on if you do want to do a little poking around, but leaving it off will significantly help Battery life. In fact, when in extreme trouble, you can go even farther and just switch the whole thing into Airplane Mode. It'll make your phone useless, but when you really need it -- out on a trip, or waiting to make an important call -- the extra Battery time might make all the difference. At the Wireless Japan 2008 conference held this July 22 to 24, 2008, NTT DoCoMo exhibited its intelligent Li-ION Battery pack for cell phones . The Battery pack developed together with Mitsumi Electric Co Ltd can detect troubles within the Li-ION Battery and relay it to the user. The 8-bit microcomputer embedded onto the pack is responsible for monitoring the Battery condition. Based on the Battery's current, voltage, temperature and other indicators; its state of deterioration, remaining Battery level, and problems with the Battery unit could be projected on screen. The Battery's status is stored on the Battery pack itself, so even if you change phone units, you can still view prior recorded data. The pack can notify the users when it's time to recharge, when the Battery needs repairs, or even when it's time to replace it altogether. NTT DoCoMo says that it will use the new intelligent Battery packs on its new phone models to come out next year. ...
We hinted at it yesterday, and can confirm today that Sanyo has become the first company to provide an officially licensed charger set for Nintendo's Wiimote controller. The new 'Contactless Charger Set for the Wii Remote Control' goes on sale in Japan on 25 August and comes with a surprise that the name more or less gives away - wire-free recharging (of a sort). Eneloop included The replacement Battery pack - naturally, it uses eneloop cells - draws its power not through metal contacts in the cradle, but by magnetic induction similar to that used by Splashpower and others. Obviously, this means there's no need to remove the Wii's silicone jacket just for recharging. Any obstructions between the cradle and the Wiimote, such as coins or paperclips, automatically stop charging as a safety precaution. Costly option As for pricing, the base set costs ¥5,500 (£25) and includes a Battery pack, an AC adapter and a single stand. Sanyo says that four sets can be linked together, although this will cost around ¥20,500 (£95) for all the bits needed.
