I've been in Florida all week shooting the Gulf Coast League (Rookie) and the Florida State League (High A). The weather has been great, not nearly as hot as I expected it to be. I shot a GCL game at noon every day and then an FSL game in the evening with a couple hour drive in between each one. It's been a long week and I've only gone through about half of the photos at this point. In the last photo my buddy Jerry is on the left, he's the one that helped me get started shooting professional Baseball. Next is "Front Row Joe", he's seen 920 consecutive Daytona Cubs home games and then Cubbie and myself. C&C is always welcomed and appreciated. Chris ... Source: www.prnewswire.com --- 4 days ago

On the shelf ■ Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield will miss at least two starts and go on the disabled list because of a stiff right shoulder, Manager Terry Francona said Sunday. Wakefield returned to Boston on Sunday for a cortisone shot after cutting short a throwing session the previous day. The 42-year-old right-hander experienced some stiffness while holding Kansas City to four hits over six innings in a win on Wednesday. ■ The AL East-leading Rays placed outfielder Carl Crawford on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a hand injury. Crawford injured a tendon in his right middle finger making a check swing in Saturday's win over the Mariners. ■ Diamondbacks second baseman Orlando Hudson underwent surgery late Saturday night to repair a dislocated bone in his left wrist and will miss the rest of the Season. Hudson injured his wrist during the Braves' win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday night. Hudson lunged to his left to try to field an errant throw from pitcher Juan Cruz when Braves catcher Brian McCann slid into Hudson, bending his left wrist backward. ... Before I left for vacation, I was wondering whether to continue forward to make it into the Top 5 in my AL-Only 4x4 keeper league or close shop and focus on fantasy football. When I left I had 48 points. When I returned, I had 40 points, and then Job Chamberlain hit the D.L. with shoulder tendonitis. The writing is on the wall (and it reads, "When do you draft Brandon Marshall?). So I went and reviewed the rosters of the top teams and came away very uninterested in what they have to offer. Scratching my head, I am baffled how they are even at the top of the standings. This has been a Season-long issue for me, and it looks as if I may be compelled to write-off 2008 as an aberration. Will the best pitchers in 2009 be Justin Duchscherer, Cliff Lee and Joe Saunders? Will Carlos Quentin be amongst the HR leaders next year? Will those HR leaders hit fewer than 35? If one answers "yes" to those questions, how different 2009 fantasy preparation be from 2008 preparation? ... Source: www.wickedlocal.com --- 31 days ago
In the end, the one commodity that Sudbury Legion manager Len Noce thought his team had an abundance of was lacking. Pitching. The culprit in that scenario was rainy weather. Post 191’s pitching staff was relatively deep and decidedly talented, but rainouts caused Sudbury to play eight games in 10 days to close out the regular Season and then play six playoff games in seven days. Some of those playoff games, incidentally, were nine-inning affairs (one went 10 innings) so Post 191 played 46 innings of playoff Baseball in one five-day span. “That wears a pitching staff down,” said Noce. “We ended up having to pitch Connor Buckley and Ryan Wood on three days rest. It turns out that we didn’t have enough pitching.” Despite the disappointing ending to the Season, Sudbury finished the year with an overall record of 18-6. Post 191 has now won six straight Zone 5A crowns and five out of the last six District titles. The team’s overall record is 79-11 over the last five summers. The key player in this summer’s success, according to Noce, was shortstop Mike Wilson. “I knew what I had in Mike,” said Noce. “We were really lucky to have a key middle infielder coming back, someone who had a lot of playoff experience. He batted .500 and really carried us.” Sam Finn had a strong senior year on the mound for Lincoln-Sudbury and combined nicely with Acton-Boxboro’s Buckley and L-S’s Wood to give Sudbury Legion three dependable starters this summer. ...
