Hey PFRS! I've really enjoyed reading your Web site. I especially enjoy your section on Baptism. I'm a non-Reformed presbyterian (yeah, yeah I know haha)...and agree with most of what you said. However, I disagree with some of the comments you made concerning Catholicism and Orthodox Christianity. I would like to clarify that Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Christians do not necessarily believe in Baptism as a "magical rite" as you hinted. Catholics don't... ... We finally made it to church yesterday. We are terrible parishioners - I'm not religious by nature, and I struggle to do things religiously . But we are making the effort because I do want to be more apart of a church community and I want to get E baptised into the body of Christ. I didn't have an opinion on infant Baptism till I became god-mother to Zach, and to Ivy. I then decided that children need to know that someone cared about them enough to set them on the right path. I think the comment that really clenched the deal for me came from Pete. He would really like to explore the Christian faith more, but always feels like an outsider (despite everyone's best efforts to make him feel welcome) because he never had an "in" as he was never baptised as a child. Now, Pete is a bit extreme in many things, but these feelings make sense to me. In the Anglican Communion, Baptism is a sacrament. Baptism is considered to be the gift of our Lord Jesus Christ. When he had risen from the dead, he commanded his followers to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. The word Baptism means “plunging”. Jesus was baptised in the river Jordan by John. Baptism with water signifies the cleansing from sin that Jesus’ death makes possible, and the new life that God gives us through the Holy Spirit. In Baptism, the promises of God are visibly signed and sealed for us. We are joined ... Source: www.metro.co.uk --- 1 hour ago

My cousin has asked my husband and me to be his daughters Baptismal Godparents. It is something we feel humbly honored to do. However, my cousin does not attend Mass (he and the mother are not together and she is not Catholic but agreed to the Baptism and the daughter is in his care). And in a coversation with a priest of the parish in which he is registered, he asked me why he is wanting to Baptize his daughter if he does not want to attend Mass and will not bring her to Mass on a regular basis and raise her in the faith. We live out of town and it is not possible for us to pick her up and take her with us every Sunday to Mass...if it were, we would certainly do that. So I need to have a talk with my cousin and encourage him to start attending Mass, ASAP. But how does one start this conversation? What does one say? A priest once told me that it is difficult for family to convert each other. However, others have told me that we have a duty to those we love to let them know what is... ... Yes, I have been busy lately. Seems like the down economy is really helping the bicycle business and leaves me with so little time that the Get Organized Lady would be hard pressed to find any spare time for me. So here is a little run down on what has been going on lately. I don't get injured much but recently I have been doctoring a knee issue. Seems like it is going away but I had to stop running for a bit to really kick it. That is a bummer because there have been a few nice little races that I would have liked to done. I did race the Rocky Gap Sprint Tri a few weeks ago and finished third with the sore knee. I was second off the bike but the knee was a little weak and I was caught on the run by one guy. It was then that I decided to really try to get this thing better. I missed out on the Xterra Trimax in Mifflinburg, the Happy Valley sprint tri, and the Rocky Gap Xterra today. I did go to the race today to cheer on my girlfriend Mary Ann and her boys who where part of a relay. Watching a race is hard for me to do and I was just a little lost and unsure of what to do. I am a participant myself and it has always drove me nuts to watch any sport being played by other people. Heck, I get bored just watching. I want to play. But I did get an interesting perspective today as I watched hundreds of people come out of the woods on their mountain bikes. Some of them were bloodied, some were exhausted, and some were pushing broken do ... Source: www.longhollow.com --- 24 days ago
