Stephanie Myles of the Montreal Gazette has got some good pics of Marion's match with Bammer. Take a look. The photos show how Marion was feeling. Poor bambina. Myles interviewed Marion last month(see tags). She didnt fancy Marion or Bammer. Judging by her blog, Myles eyes where more fixed on other girls. Oh well, one lady’s watching paint dry is another lady’s wallpaper. http://communities.canada.com/montrealgazette/blogs/opencourt/archive/2008/08/31/marion-bartoli-vs-sybille-Bammer-like-watching-paint-dry.aspx Link fixed 04/09/08 ...

AP US OPEN > NY > HARD > GRAND SLAM > 4TH ROUND Marion Plays The Blues At Louis Armstrong Stadium Frequently in sport, when an underdog performs a feat of giant killing, they then go on to lose the next match. Maybe it’s the euphoria of a fine victory, or maybe its the pressure of expectation - the fans and flash bulbs. Whatever the root causes, sadly these symptoms appeared this evening and conspired with sickness to defeat Marion on Armstrong Stadium. After her fine victory over Lindsay Davenport on Friday, Marion’s participation at the 2008 US Open is now at an end. Losing 6-7 6-0 4-6 to Sybille Bammer after more than three gruelling humid hours in which Marion had the trainer on court twice. Marion said, "I had very low blood pressure and very weak pulse and the trainer advised me not to continue, especially because it was so hot. I was sick since yesterday morning because I caught a stomach virus. Since then I had not eaten anything except one glass of orange juice. It's a miracle I stayed in for three sets," Marion's malady was verified again by the doctor who took her blood pressure on court. Troubled by her physical condition from the beginning of the match, Marion’s game unsurprisingly wasnt able to reach the heights that it did against Davenport. Nevertheless Both players remained kneck and kneck throughout the first set, but each time Marion’s service game came round, it was sweaty palm time! Dropping her serve late in the s ...

This week's Big Orange Roundtable is brought to you by YMSWWC , home to the longest name in the Big Orange Blogosphere. 1. One former VOL made the brave choice to testify against some Bammers and has to enter witness protection with a whole new identity, but that also gives him 4 more years of eligibility. Which VOL would you pick and why? Wow, double bonus. Bust a Bammer, play for four more years. I like it. You really can't go wrong with Albert Haynesworth or John Henderson, but I think I'm going to opt for Jason Witten. I always liked that guy. The lasting image I have of Witten is of him in the south end zone pointing to the sky just before getting buried by his own players because he'd made the game-winning touchdown catch in the 12-hour game against Arkansas several years ago. And since he gets a new identity, let's name him Rolling Boulder or something cool like that. Actually, something cool instead of that. 2. Alabama has been given the death penalty and is forced to leave the SEC, at the same time South Carolina decides it can win a lot more in the Sunbelt conference and bolts the SEC. Two teams have to take their place who would you like to see take their place? Let's put an end to the Conference Wars once and for all and add Southern Cal and Ohio State. Southern Cal, of course, would have to replace Alabama in the West because frankly, I wouldn't want to play them every year (or ever, really), and we'd put Ohio State in the ...

Sybille Bammer, the 28-year-old mom whose every movement we've been chronicling , is now, at least in our mind, the greatest story in what is an otherwise very disappointing U.S. Open for women's tennis. For the first time in her career, the women's No. 29 player will make it to a Grand Slam quarterfinals after she beat Marion Bartoli this afternoon in a 7-6, 0-6, 6-4 match. The match took an astonishingly long 3 hours and 3 minutes to complete, which will no doubt take a toll on the 28-year old Austrian's body as she gets ready for Jelena Jankovic in the quarters. So far, though, problem. ...
